Hand Quilt Along – 18/02/18

Happy Sunday!
For once, the progress I’m going to show you hasn’t been made this week, as I have been away from home, but actually almost three weeks ago, just after my last HQAL post!
I am quite happy with how this project is going, I have started to assemble the pieces separately from the main body of the quilt as it is getting bulkier. The width is approximately what it will be in the end (about 30″), so now I just have to add some length to it!
Until next time!

WIP Wednesday – Read between the lines

Happy Wednesday everyone, and happy Valentine’s day!

I hope you spent a great day with loved ones and that you had an amazing time. I have been super busy, similarly to last week and also super tired (12h work days will do that to you!) but I still managed to get some knitting done. I think I mentioned recently that I started the Read between the lines shawl (RBTL for short) and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s my first time doing illusion knitting and I’ve been enjoying it so much. The pattern is worked in horizontal stripes but the illusion makes it look as if the stripes are vertical, neat right?

The pattern asks for Scheepjes whirls but I had two Illusion Cakes from Lincraft (one of Australia’s main craft stores) so I just used those. I’m loving the colours so far, I think the final shawl will be quite muted but in a good way and will hopefully go with a lot of my clothes. There is also a crochet version of this pattern available for the non-knitters and I’ve seen some amazing versions on Instagram!

I’d love to know if you are making one of those shawls, I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful colour combinations!

Again I wish you all had a great Valentine’s day โค

WIP Wednesday – Hubby socks

Happy Wednesday!

I hope that your first week of Feb has been great, I have just been so busy that I missed my usual Monday post. I’m afraid that I will only be able to blog on Wednesdays for the next couple of weeks, but fear not, I have a few things on the go that I will definitely be sharing when everything is back to normal!

This brings me to today’s post, I have made a start on my second pair of socks of the year, and I have a half finished object (HO) to show you!

IMG_7655 copy

I’m using self striping yarn, and to make them more manly than my socks, I’m not doing any lace pattern. Hubby was definitely relieved about that one! The socks kind of fit on my sock blockers, because I discovered that I have hobbit feet (almost the same size as hubby’s). Or maybe he just has small feet? Either way, those fit him, and he is happy he will have a new pair for winter. I really like the striping effect on those, I think they look great! I have lost the ball band somewhere though so I can’t remember what the yarn is, but I shall find out and I will mention it when I finish the socks.

I have also made a start on the Read Between the Line shawl and I love it! I will try to take some pictures and share that next week ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish you all a wonderful end of the week!

Hand Quilt Along – 28/01/18

Happy Sunday everyone!
It is time again to share our progress in the hand quilt along hosted by Kathy. I actually made some progress this time, more than last for sure!
Here are my pictures, on the left from last time and on the right this time.
I am now expanding the piece towards the left side until I reach around 30″. I think the right side will stay as is until I finish the quilt top, and then I’ll trim it to be a rectangle before quilting and binding it. Phew! Lots left to do but there is progress so it’s encouraging!

WIP Wednesday – baby whale

Happy Wednesday!

I have a confession to make, I am a bit late on my Christmas presents. Yep, you read that right, Christmas presents, at the end of January! As you may remember, I moved in October, so I haven’t actually seen some of my friends since then. I do have a trip to Queensland planned in the next couple of weeks though, and I really wanted to make cool presents for my friends.

I’ve actually had this project saved in my Ravelry queue for a while, and my friend loves marine animals so I thought this would be perfect!

How cute is it already? The pattern is the Baby Humpback Whale from 1dogwoof. And it’s free! Can’t wait to finish this guy, he will just be the best huggable amigurumi ๐Ÿ‹

Have you decided to start a project you’ve had on your list for a while recently?

WIP Wednesday – Possum shawl

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I have mentioned in my yearly goals that I would like to design more this year, and I’ve really been enjoying designing amigurumi so far. I have had an idea for a knitted shawl in my head since last week though, and so I’ve started on it using some super soft possum/merino/silk yarn I bought while in New-Zealand. The yarn is Zealana Kauri and it’s just amazing. I’ve been using my new interchangeable needles from Knitpro too, and I have to say that they are great, the transition from cable to needle is just so smooth. Anyway, the shawl is in three colours and I am doing a simple lace pattern with the green/mustardy colour.

I really love the overall effect, I’m hoping to have this finished by next week and I’m hoping that the blocking really makes the lace stand out ๐Ÿ™‚ I think it’s pretty good for my first ‘freestyle’ knitting project.

Have you ever designed a project on a whim? I’d love to know!

Hand Quilt Along – 07/01/18

Happy Sunday readers!
It is time again to share my progress on my English Paper Piecing for the Hand Quilt Along hosted by Kathy every three weeks.
Due to Christmas and New Year (and my family being here) I actually didn’t get much progress this time

I did however, cover a lot of my templates with fabric, which does take quite a long time. This will have to do for progress this time!

EPP diamonds

I hope you guys had time to work a bit more of your HQAL than what I did!

WIP Wednesday – (Crochet) knitted socks

Happy Wednesday lovely readers!

I hope you all had a great start to the year, I am sure having a great week with my family still being here. We visited an orchard yesterday and went along the coast today and it was all beautiful!

On New Year’s Eve, I decided to cast on some very special yarn I got from Bogga from Knitting in France. I thought I would try something new so I started my very first crochet sock. Now, this was an epic fail! I didn’t like the fabric that the crochet made, the sock was too small I didn’t like the look of it overall.

IMG_7495

I got all the way to there but then I just couldn’t do it. I had to frog it! So that was my first frog of 2018 on day 2! I really loved the yarn though, so I knew I had to start back straight away. Thankfully I’m a fast knitter, so this is where I’m at since yesterday.

I actually prefer everything about this sock, especially how the yellow and orange blend (it looks less like candy corn but I think they are more wearable this way so I’m happy). I’m doing a shorty vanilla sock to wear in my sport shoes and I’ve already turned the heel and decreased back to the right number of stitches needed for the foot. I’m not really using any pattern, I just cast on 60 sts, did a 2×2 rib and used a heel flap with eye of partridge motif (which is my absolute favourite). I should have this first sock cast off by the end of the week and possibly a whole pair next week.

I guess at least I tried crochet socks but, unless I find a really good pattern or you guys can recommend one, I don’t think I’ll try it again anytime soon.

Have you already had a fail this new year? Please tell me I’m not alone! In any case, have a great end of the week.

WIP Wednesday – Christmoose

Happy Wednesday beautiful readers!

I hope that this last week before Christmas isn’t too crazy and that you are all getting into holiday mode. I have my last week of work before the holidays now and it’s been quite hard to stay focused when all I want to do is bake and craft!

You probably remember a few weeks back I participated in the Fantastic Creature Amigurumi design contest from amigurumipatterns.net. I wanted to say a very warm thank you to everyone who voted for me, it was my first participation and seriously it was awesome!

Wiley and Sandy did pretty good too, I was very excited to get over 500 votes with Sandy, it was really a great experience and I can’t wait for next year’s contest!

I did not win the contest (the first person had over 2000 votes for her design!) but I’m really happy with how I did and all the participants earned a place in the December ami-along hosted on amigurumipatterns.net. Which brings me to today’s WIP: meet my Christmoose! He is Sabrina Somers design for the December ami-along and he is adorable!

He tuned out so cute! I’m very excited to add the finishing touches: baubles in sparkly yarn! โœจ

Are you currently participating in an Ami-along or have you participated before? I’d love to know!

Hand Quilt Along – 17/12/17

Hello readers!

It is time again for another hand quilt along update! I’ve tried to add small triangles to fill on of the edges of my EPP this time, and I think it worked great ๐Ÿ™‚ Can you see it at the bottom of the second picture? You might also notice that I’ve introduced some new fabrics, the ones from my hoop embroidery project.

We have some new participants this month, Nanette Sassy and Edith, welcome! Next update in 3 weeks on the 7th of Jan!
