WIP Wednesday – Gandalf’s pipe and madeleines

Happy Wednesday readers!

I have taken back to my LOTR crochet along now that my ripple blanket is almost done (2 rows left, yay!). I have made a start on Gandalf’s pipe, and here is what it looks like so far.

I’ve also been baking today, I made a fresh batch of madeleines using my nana’s recipe and they were delicious!

It was actually quite funny because I was using fresh eggs that a friend brought over and the madeleines turned out so bright compared to usual! I even though something was wrong before I realised what was happening 😂

If you are interested with the recipe, I’ll post it next week, just let me know in the comments 😊

Filet crochet and appliqué

Happy Wednesday!

I have finally made trials for a shark appliqué, and I’m really happy with the results! What do you guys think?

I’ve also been trying filet crochet, and I have to say that it’s such a cool technique! I’ve done some starfish and I’ve tried either having the starfish in ‘solid’ or in ‘filet’. I’m not sure which one I prefer, the idea would be to turn one of those into a shawl. I think that I will use the design on the left regardless, I like that starfish better than the other one. Which one do you prefer?

I’m also hoping to get some cross stitch finished by Friday, but we’ll see, this week has been crazy!

Ripple blanket progress update

Hello everyone!

Just a quick post today, I’ve only been working on my ripple blanket lately so not much else to show. I’ve finished 3 skeins and I have 5 more to go and finish before next Monday! This will be a challenge but I think it’s feasible! I was afraid it wouldn’t be big enough but now I think it will be the perfect size.

I’m loving the colour changes and it’s nice and warm as I work on it.

I’ve also been desperately looking for a shark appliqué that I like but couldn’t find anything so I will have to wing it. Maybe I’ll write a free pattern for it too 🙂 I’m very excited with how this is coming along and I can’t wait to get started on a few nice sea creatures.

I wish you all a great week!

Ripple blanket

Happy Wednesday readers!

My best friend’s birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I really wanted to make him something special. He was a bit depressed because we are leaving the “youth” age group, so I knew I had to make something happy and bright.
I’ve settled on a marine themed blanket, so I’m using the ripple stitch to imitate waves and I will have 4 different shades of blue, with smaller amounts for the lighter blue and a lot of the darker blue to imitate the different depth of the sea. I’ve already finished one of my skeins of yarn, the lightest blue, and just started on the second one. I think that I might need to go buy some more at that rate but I’ll see once I’ve finished this second colour.

My idea is then to apply appliqué fish, shells and other marine creatures to make an underwater scene. It’s been working up quite fast (I’ve started on Monday) so hopefully I can get the base blanket done, block it (it will need it!), and still get some time to play around with appliqués!

This is what I’ve freehanded so far, I’ve made the shell in crocodile stitch to give some texture.

Do you guys have a favourite marine themed appliqué that you think I should really include? And do you have any suggestion on the best way to attach them to the blanket once it’s finished?

Orks painting

Happy Monday!

I hope you’ve enjoyed your long weekend if you’ve had one, I’ve spent mine crafting as you can imagine 🙂 you’ll be happy to hear that I’ve finished the baby blanket in time for the baby shower, but so last minute (I was weaving ends in the car on the way there!) that I didn’t get time to take a proper picture. Here it is next to all the other presents, this little girl is already spoilt!

The future parents were super glad though so that’s what matters 🙂

In other news I’ve started painting my warhammer miniatures again, and I’ve made some good progress on a squad of orks. The story for this is actually quite funny, in the warhammer universe, orks are fungi that keep on growing all over the planets. I have this crazy theory that orks are French and that’s why they can’t say “Hs” so I’m painting their clothes blue white and red 😂 anyway, I’ve done their skin and  started the metal bits on some of them so far.

I’m pretty excited with how they’ve turned out so far and I can’t wait to actually play a game with them when they’re actually painted! I’ll be back on Wednesday with some crochet update 😊

Beautiful shells baby blanket

Happy Friday!

As I mentioned last week, I did start a few new projects over the Easter weekend. I showed you the springtime versatile shawl on Wednesday. Now, I want to show you a baby blanket I’ve started for a baby shower next week. I’ve copied Mrs Craft and used the beautiful shells pattern for this baby blanket. The baby is a little girl (which is super exciting as the future mum already has two boys!) and I hope she will like the girly colours I’ve chosen.

The blanket is a bit bigger than that right now but it’s somewhere in a cardboard. We are finishing to move all our stuff in the new house tomorrow, so I’ll dig it up then and continue working on it. Hopefully it’ll be finished by Sunday next week 🙂

Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday – Springtime Versatile Shawl

Happy Wednesday!

Last week, Brenna over at Crochet539 posted a pattern for the Springtime Versatile shawl. I immediately really liked the look of it, and as I lost my scarf last year when I went to Tasmania, I was on the lookout for a new pattern to make. This is it! With the weather getting cooler here, this was the perfect time to make a start.

The colours I have chosen are yellow and purple, I really like this combo and I think it will brighten the darker winter days. I’m already past the half way point, so hopefully I’ll be finished soon 🙂 you can follow this project on my Ravelry page.

Thanks again Brenna for this beautiful pattern! I can’t wait to wear my new shawl 🙂

WIP Wednesday – joyful world

Hello lovely readers!

We are planning on moving next week so our house is starting to get packed. This means I had to get some of my craft supplies sorted, especially the bigillion embroidery threads that got passed on to me. And the beads! So many beads…

Most of those will go into boxes but I’m keeping enough threads to work on my joyful world SAL from the Snowflower Diaries

This is where it was at last time.

And now I’ve almost finished April, with only the ground to finish stitching.

And here is all the stitching I’ve done so far, just to remind you (and me) 😊

Now, back to packing a few things before bed!

WIP Wednesday – Glynis socks

Hello wonderful readers!

I’m super happy today, because I’ve finished my first sock! I probably should have started with an easier pattern for my first pair, but I just fell in love with the details. The pattern is from the book “Sock Innovation” and, like the title says, it is the Glynis design.

It’s also getting quite cool here after the time torrential rains from last week, so I’m quite pleased with how warm this sock is! Now, to knit the second one!

WIP Wednesday – virus shawl

Happy Wednesday!

Yes I admit, I totally gave in and started another project. To be fair though, I found the perfect yarn for it a few weeks ago and it was calling to me (seriously, I swear!) I’ve had my eyes on this project years ago, so I feel like it’s okay to have started it now 🙂 I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I’ve finally started a virus shawl.

I even enjoyed some outside crochet time yesterday, before we got hit by the rain and wind brought by cyclone Debbie.

I really love the pattern for this shawl, so easy to do, I don’t even have to think about it. I’m using the most gorgeous yarn too, Holst Garn Coast, and I love the slight changes in colour, it makes me think of denim 🙂 so pretty!

Anyway, I’m going to take it slow with this one, and try to update the mandala madness next week instead. We will see how I go!

P.S. I also just started a secret project today. I might show you some sneak peeks next week 😉 and yes, I know I should really finish stuff before I start new things but I can’t help it!
