WIP Wednesday – Two socks at the same time!

Happy Wednesday readers!

Like I said on Monday, I’ve already cast on another pair of socks. Those will be plain vanilla socks but will be worked slightly differently than what I’m used to. So far I have only made socks from the top down, but this time I’m doing them from the toes up andย I’m also making two at the same time! For that, I’m using the pattern from Heidi Bears website, it’s really good and has great pictures to illustrate the instructions!

You may notice I’m using Aquagirl once again, those are the leftovers from the socks I made for my friend Tracy. I actually was showing the yarn to my mum over Skype and she absolutely loved the colours, I can’t really blame her, this colourway is amazing! Mum really likes short socks and I had enough yarn so I decided to make her a pair and gift them to her when I go back to visit my family in September ๐Ÿ˜Š

I’ve finished the toes already and I’m working my way through the foot. I’ve really been liking this technique so far, it will be really cool to have finished both socks at the same time too!

In other news I received this beautiful bouquet of flowers today, isn’t my husband just so sweet? They look like little suns and they really did brighten my day โ˜€๏ธ

A HO and some awesome podcasts

Happy Monday readers!

It looks like I’ve skipped my Friday post ๐Ÿ™ˆย whoops! It’s actually probably better that way, I have mostly been working on the same projects so maybe it wasn’t as interesting anyway. I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather last week, but after this weekend I feel motivated again and ready to get on with this new week!

I have a half object (HO) today, my Sock it to me! made with the Aquagirl yarn from Fibre Revolution ๐Ÿ˜Šย I love this yarn even more after working with it! It’s super soft and I love all the pops of colours, I actually think that the sock pattern I used shows them so well too.

IMG_6220

I also wanted to share with you 4 podcasts/ video blogs that I’ve really been enjoying so much in the last month. I feel like video blogs have been very popular lately, and I love being able to put a face and a voice to those bloggers. The only negative is that I get serious yarn envies and that I’ve been spending more money, but it’s supporting small businesses, so it’s okay right? ๐Ÿ˜ย Those are is no particular order, please also share with me if there is any other podcast I must watch!

  • Potter and Bloom – I just love Emma, she makes me laugh and I love seeing all her beautiful crocheted and knitted objects. I’ve back watched all her episodes because I enjoy watching her so much (I hope that doesn’t sound too creepy ๐Ÿ˜‚)ย She is actually the one who inspired me to start knitting again and her designs are the cutest!
  • Zeens and Roger – Rosina is just so relatable and I love how honest she is about everything! I particularly enjoyed watching footage of her crochet corner of shame (it made me feel better about mine ๐Ÿ˜‚) and since I have been follower her blog for a while too, it’s like getting to know a friend better.
  • Lottie and Albert – Lindsey has just started her video blog adventure and I have been following her from the beginning. My favourite thing about her podcast is how enthusiastic she is, it really inspires me to see how excited she gets about projects and yarn, and I can totally relate to that!
  • Addydae Designs – I have already talked about Deanne before, she is the designer for the Blurre shawl and I am obsessed with how mine is turning out! I love her humour too, and I love that she is an Aussie! It’s so great to learn about all the yarny events happening here and to learn about all the wonderful local dyers! Beware though, she is a serious enabler ๐Ÿ˜Š

That’s it for me today! If you have other podcasts you love, please share! And have a great week!

Sock Wednesday

Happy Wednesday readers!

I’ll keep today’s post short and sweet, I’ve been mostly working on socks as you may have guessed! Also I received some AMAZING yarn that I got from Fibre Revolution. Carmela is a Brisbane local, and her hand dyed yarn is just so pretty! I got two colours on her sock base, Sea Foam (left) and Aqua Girl (right).

IMG_6211

How amazing right? I’ve started another pair of socks straight away with Aqua Girl and I’m using the Sock it to me pattern from Yarnspirations.

IMG_6215

I am so in love with the colours, especially all the speckles, they are the best! Also the yarn is so soft and it’s been so nice to work with! Did I mention I started tonight? And fear not, I have not forgotten my Mercury socks, I have actually finished the first one on Saturday, so it took me less than a week to make one, I’m so please with myself โ˜บ๏ธ

IMG_6216

The fit is perfect and I love how the colours change.

That’s it for today, I hope you guys are all having a great week (I’ve been marking exams and I can tell you I’ve been having a good laugh with some of the answers!)

New project bag

Happy Monday lovely readers!

This weekend I had some prime craft time while watching the Harry Potter movies ๐Ÿ˜Šย I have been having yarn everywhere though lately and so I decided to make myself a new project bag to keep all my yarn in. I made it using calico and it’s actually pretty huge! I even put in a zipper and I was very please with how it turned out (excuse the wrinkledness, I still haven’t found my iron!)

You have probably noticed as well the red patch on the bag? Because the fabric is calico, I thought it would be cool to have a long term project to decorate the bag with cross stitch, and so I’ve made a start on this cute little star fish! I just love how tiny the stitches are and I’m sure it will look great once I’ve done more around it too.

And lastly, I just wanted to show you what’s currently in the bag! My Blurre shawl from Addydae Designsย ๐Ÿ˜ย I love everything about this shawl and I can’t wait to finish it, hopefully before the 30th of June so that I can enter it in the CAL!

IMG_6207

What have you guys been working on lately? Do you have project bags to keep your crafting area tidy(er)?

WIP Wednesday – Mercury socks

Happy Wednesday readers!

I hope you are having a good week so far, mine has been pretty busy after the break last week. I have been on a sock rampage, I have only started those Mercury socks on Sunday and look how much I’ve done already!

IMG_6185

I have turned the heel already and have started knitting the foot. I really love how the yarn stripes, the colours are just so cheerful! The pattern I’m using is a free pattern on Ravelry fromย Kim Drotar and I like it a lot, especially how easy it is to remember. I’ve also been loving my new 9 inches (30 cm) circular needles, they are just so good for this type of socks and I feel like they’ve made it much faster.

I also have received my yarn order finally! yay! I got 4 colours and the yarn is from Scheepjes (it’s Catona which is mercerised cotton). I followed your advice and went to Wool Warehouse, and honestly it was a very good price, especially for shipping all the way to Australia.

IMG_6183

Aren’t the colours pretty? I’ve already started the first row of the shawl I’m planning to make, I really hope that it works as I see it in my head but only time will tell!

That’s it for me, what are you bunch up to? I’d love to hear from you! And if you want a bit more updates, check my Instagram, I’ve been trying to post a bit more there, I’m @emmacraftsdesign if you’re interested ๐Ÿ™‚

I shawl make all the pretty things!

Happy Monday lovely people โค๏ธ

I hope you all had a fab weekend, we came back from our trip down to Melbourne and today was back to work. I have been trying to catch up with all of your wonderful blogs but I have to say that today was really busy so hopefully I will get more time during the week to do this ๐Ÿ˜Š

I don’t know if it’s because the weather has been so much colder or because I’ve been trying to be a bit more active on Instagram, but I’m just feeling so inspired right now, I just want to make all the things!

I’ve been working quite a lot on my virus shawl over my mini holidays and I have made it to the second skein of Holst Garn Coast. Yay!

IMG_6180

This colour is called Marlin and I just love it! because the shawl is getting so much bigger, I think I’ll only be able to get two or three more pattern repeats with this colour, and then I still have my third blue to add.

I have also recently stumbled on the Blurre shawl from Addydae Designs. I LOVE it! It’s just so clever how the colours blend into each other to form this really cool effect. I had to make it! I’m using some Schoppel yarn I bought in Amsterdam last year and the leftovers from my socks for this. This is where I’m at so far and I think it looks like a sunset, so pretty! ๐Ÿ˜

IMG_6179

If you want to make your own Blurre, Deanne (the designer) is hosting a CAL on her Ravelry that will run until the 30th of June, so you still have time to join if you want to ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for me for today, I wish you all a great week and I’ll be back on Wednesday with some sock WIP!

May wrap up

TGIF! And I am on mini holidays too for a week ๐Ÿ˜Š

My hubby and I are going to spend a week in Melbourne (in Australia, not the US!) where he will start working towards the end of the year. I’ve never been there but I’m really excited as I got told that the food and coffee down there is amazing! I’m also pretty excited because they have real winters and I will be able to crochet and knit heaps of wearable things once we move there. If you have been to Melbourne or live there, do you guys have any suggestions for good yarn shops? I might as well go and visit a few!

Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick recap for May. I actually did not finish many things in May but the ones I finished were pretty big (except for Yoda, he is tiny)!

I think that starting and finishing a blanket in a month (actually more like 3 weeks) is a record for me, I’ve never done a blanket that fast! The cross stitch was also the longest of the year, look at all this beigy/brown! And I even got some sewing done, talk about multi crafting ๐Ÿ˜‚ I also tested a great bikini top pattern from Oceans Originals but I can’t show you anything yet, patience!

I also dug out a few projects and I am working hard to get those finished in June!

I’m actually not sure why I’m doing so much needlework considering it’s winter! What I am thinking, I wonder?

I also did some baking in May, and I participated in my first Fantastic Bake Along! It was great and I can’t wait for the June one.

So, my plan for June is to finish knitting my socks, hopefully find some time to read more ย (maybe on the plane) and get back on track for my LOTR blanket.

What have you been up to during May? Do you also have a huge list of projects you’d like to start/continue/finish in June?

Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday – May Joyful World

Happy Wednesday crafters!

I hope you’re all having a great week! I have made more progress this month on my Joyful World from the Snowflower Diaries.

IMG_6131

I have pretty much done all the greenery and I need to add the critters for this month, a couple of cats in the middle and a dove on one the branches.

This is what the rest looks like as a reminder ๐Ÿ˜Š

IMG_6134

Have a great rest of the week (and no, my yarn still hasn’t arrived ๐Ÿ˜ข)

New stitches and yarn order

Happy Monday readers!

First, I’d like to thank everyone for your lovely comments and suggestions on buying yarn online. I’ve followed the advice that a few of you gave me and placed an order with Wool Warehouse, and I got Scheepjes Catona in a few different colours (I will post a picture when my squishy parcel arrives).

Like I said last week, I’ve got this shawl idea stuck in my head for a little while now and I have finally started on making some swatches for the different stitches I want to use.

IMG_6128

The top picture is the star stitch, it took me a little while to figure it out but I ended up getting it after watching this tutorial from the Crochet Crowd.ย On the bottom right is some kind of net stitch worked up in triangles (I’m still a bit unsure about this one) and on the bottom left is a shell stitch. I had to try this one a few times as I wanted to include a decrease in the pattern with the same slope as decreasing the net or the star stitches. I have also re-done a starfish in filet crochet and I really like this version so it will be the one I keep. And last but not least I have made this little fishy using tapestry crochet.

I’m really liking how all the elements are turning out, now I just hope that when my yarn arrives and I start crocheting, everything comes together well, but only time will tell ๐Ÿ˜Š

I wish you all a great week!

Pokemon embroidery

Hello lovely readers!

Making a bag for my hubby earlier this week made me want to start a bag for myself, probably a project bag actually. I was rummaging through my fabric bag and found this piece, which had been abandonned for at least 2 years!

IMG_2570

It was time to add some friends and I will turn it into the front pannel of my new bag once I finish embroidering them all!

IMG_6112

On the top right corner, I added the japanese symbol for water. I’m going with a water pokemon theme too (they’re my favourite!) Have a great weekend!
