Like mother, like daughter

Happy Friday crafters!

The project I want to share with you today is pretty special to me. Some of you may know this, but I am getting married soon, in 3 weeks to be precise.

I was looking for a cute way of customising our wedding photo album when I received an email notification for a post over at Hélène’s blog. Mahelia, her daughter, created her first cross stitch pattern. The theme? Romantic date. Super bright and fun! I got the immediate approval from Dylan and so I started stitching away!

I wanted a landscape finish to fit the album I had already covered in fabric, so I decided not to do the top of the pattern and I changed the colour of the car to blue (our car is blue). Added a little bit of text and Voila! Perfect photo album to keep all our precious memories 🙂 thank you so much Mahelia and Helene for your beautiful patterns!

Miss Caly’s 7 days of lists – days 5 to 7

Happy Wednesday readers!

Today I managed to finish the 3 last lists prompts from Miss Caly. I found the lists from day 5 and 6 a bit more challenging. Day 5 was about listing 20 of our fears and I guess no one really likes to dwell on what scares us. I am no different and it was hard to think about  what things I am truly afraid of. It was a great exercise though as I realise that in some situations I tend to get nervous or even angry when in fact I am just afraid.

#5 – 20 of my greatest fears

List 6 was even more challenging. I think I usually never really take the time to appreciate all the small achievements in life and it was hard to come up with 20 things that I was truly proud of achieving. I actually asked for some help from my other half for this one 🙂

#6 – 20 of my greatest achievements

And finally day 7 was fun to write and I hope you guys get to know me a little better from it.

#7 – 20 weird and wonderful facts about me

I wish you all a great end to the week

LOTR CAL – layout overview

Hello lovely readers!

Today being public holiday, I finally found the time to finish putting together the LOTR crochet along layout.

LOTR_CAL_final_layout

From top to bottom, left to right there will be:

The Lothlorien leaf Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, The One ring, Gimli, The Lord of the Rings centre square, Saruman, Legolas, The Witch King of Angmar, The white tree of Gondor, Aragorn, Gandalf the grey and Gandalf’s pipe.

The background colours will probably be different from what they are here, I only added the yellow on Gandalf and Saruman to contrast with their hair/clothes.

If you want to mix things up, I will also release a few extra alternative squares, including Meriadoc Brandybuck, Peregrin Took, Arwen’s necklace and Smaug (yes I know he is not really from LOTR but the Hobbit is close enough! Plus, who doesn’t love dragons?). I might also include Boromir, Faramir, Eowyn, Gollum and a few more for alternate squares.

Oh, and I took a picture of my Ring square

I wish I had gotten a better contrasting colour for the back of the ring, but this will have to do!

Until next time, happy crocheting!

LOTR CAL week 4

LOTR_week4_banner

Today in our LOTR crochet along, we are having our first characters. In the original layout I have planned, there are 12 smaller squares, 8 of which will have characters and 4 with LOTR related objects (like the Lothlorien leaf brooch from week 2 and the ring from week 3).

Our first character is Frodo. I have also prepared an alternate square featuring Merry in case you prefer him over Frodo. Next week will be Sam and Pippin. It is totally up to you if you want to make Frodo and Sam, or Merry and Pippin, or even mix it up and use them in different combinations (and why not do them all if you really like Hobbitses?)

Quite a bit of colours this week so we will see how I go. I have finished the ring square but haven’t taken pics yet so it will be for tomorrow!

Happy crocheting!

Miss Caly’s 7 days of lists – day 1 to 4

Happy Friday!

Time has been going crazy fast so I didn’t get much time to add to my mandala. I have been following the prompts from Miss Caly’s blog though and I have come up with 4 days of lists so far 🙂

It was also a good excuse to use my pretty fine tips markers!

So here we go!

#1 – 20 things that make me happy
#2 – 20 places I want to visit

  #3 – 20 people who inspire me

#4 – 20 things I’d like to learn more about

Maybe you have noticed, but I wrote those lists in my bullet journal, to keep me inspired and add a bit of extra colour to it 😊

And that’s it for today! I wish you all a great weekend 😘

LOTR CAL – Lothlorien leaf finished

Hi guys!

I’ve finished my Lothlorien leaf and am now working on the One ring for the LOTR crochet along (more on that later!)

I really enjoyed working on this smaller square, and it just felt so good to finish it. I’m completely in love with the bobble stitch, I just like everything about it: the look of it, the texture, the thickness of the finished piece etc.
I’ve also added a sc border all around the square in the background colour to be able to join the blocks together later.

I am still working on the design of a few squares but when I am done I will post the final layout so stay tuned 😉

Happy crocheting

Is there such thing as too much yarn?

Happy Monday, yarn enthusiasts!

Over the weekend I have been reorganising my stash, and for good reason! I finally got hold of a yarn winder 🙂 I’ve only had it for 2 days but it’s already made such a difference.

New toy!

I’ve made neat yarn cakes and I’ve really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful colours I own 🙂 it also made me realise that I might have too much yarn… after I spent literally 2 hours winding yarn (and I’m not even finished yet *sigh*) please someone tell me I’m not alone!? The worst is that I will actually need to buy more to continue my LOTR CAL 😁 I swear I won’t buy yarn for anything else though. I guess when this project is finished, I’ll need to do a big de-stash!

LOTR CAL week 3

LOTR_week3_banner

I have to say, I am very happy that the small square work up faster than the centre panel! I’ve almost caught up on the week 2 square and made some progress on week 1 as well. Week 2 actually had quite a few colour changes but this part is over, and I only have a few rows of solid colour to go through.

And now for week 3, the design is pretty simple and won’t require that many changes, which is good! Behold the one ring!

PDF available here

LOTR_CAL_week3

One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

As always, the colours are only recommended, you are more than welcome to use colours from your stash or chose different ones altogether if you feel like it.

You can find week one here, week two here, and a photo tutorial for the bobble stitch here 🙂

Happy crocheting

Mandala madness week 3

Slowly but surely, the mandala is growing!
I absolutely love how the circles are done on 2 rows. And how pretty is the ruffle stitch?

Can’t wait to see what week 4 brings 🙂

Pink pink and more pink

Happy Wednesday readers 🙂

I think I have mentioned this before but my fiancé has a huge family, which means a lot of birthdays!

I’ve been trying to gift handmade as often as possible as I think that people in general appreciate the time and effort put into the gift. This time is no exception!

The next person having her birthday absolutely adores pink. Like she has 3 or 4 Pinterest boards with pink things on them. Most of her wardrobe is pink, her car is pink, her handbags are pink, and I’m sure that if she could she would even have pink hair. Obviously, I have to gift her something pink.

Remember this pink cowl?

I gifted it to her already as an early present. And to go with it, I got the perfect idea. Combining her love for pink with her love for… Wine!

She will now have her very own pink wine glasses. The first one only has pink on it and reads “Pink Queen”. The second reads “La vie en rose” which means “life in pink” in French and also has some pink flowers and green stems.

I’m hoping she loves them, because, although I don’t like pink, I really liked how they turned out!

Have you also given handmade gifts before? Did people appreciate as much as you hoped?
