I got super spoilt!

Happy Saturday readers!

I hope you have all had a great week, mine was very busy but also super productive, which is always a good thing! In the last few weeks, I’ve actually got completely spoilt, not by one, but two of my blogging friends. When I first started blogging, I had no idea people would be so lovely and generous but honestly it’s been so nice to meet new people here and I am so grateful for each and every one of you ❤️

The first parcel to arrive was from Claire. Claire is an amazing stitcher and sewer, and she just recently took up crochet as well. I’m always looking forward to her layer of the month post (she has three chooks) and to seeing some pictures of Gibbs, her adorable pup. Claire organises unbirthdays and she sent me my first unbirthday! It was super exciting!

IMG_6301

I got a cute postcard, a little monster pouch and a cross stitch kit (which was started straight away, more news on that next week!)

The second parcel was a total surprise. I was waiting for some music books from my nana, and at first I though that the parcel was those books. Imagine my surprise when I got to the post office and realised that it was a parcel from Tracy! Tracy is an amazing quilter, baker and crafter in general and her blog really is so sweet! Tracy sent me yarn, and look at this colour!

IMG_6327

All those blues are just wonderful, and I think I’ve already picked the perfect pattern for it, I might even start it tomorrow (when I get new needles to cast it on). It will be a knitted shawl, and I hope that the simplicity of the pattern will do the yarn justice! ❤️

I am just so thankful for your friendship Claire and Tracy, and for the beautiful gifts you sent, so thank you so much again.

And of course, thank you guys for reading ❤️ have a great weekend!

Mystery blogger award

mystery_blogger_award.jpg

Happy Monday! It’s been a little bit since I’ve done an award post and last week the lovely Jess from Ever The Crafter nominated me for the mystery blogger award. So I decided to indulge! Here are the rules.

Rules:

Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog, tell your readers three things about yourself, nominate people, notify your nominees by commenting on their blogs, ask your nominees five questions of your choice and share a link or links to your favourite posts.

3 things about me:

  1. I have been living in Australia for almost 6 years (coming this November). Before that I used to live in south France on the Cote d’Azur.
  2. I can’t sit in front of the TV without doing something else, which is great because that’s prime craft time for me!
  3. I design posters, mainly for seminars and public events we organise with the Centre for Marine Science. I love that it combines work and my creative side!

Fav posts:

Poké-alphabet – final week

Millie the Manta Ray

Questions:

1- If you had to pick one ‘pump up’ song to get you ready to do something what would you pick?

That’s a hard one, I listen to a lot of music! The one that I love at the moment though is ‘Another day of sun’ from the Lala land movie. ☀️

2- If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

I would be in Harry Potter world in Florida because I’ve never been and I’d love to go!

3- Paperback, hardback, ebook, or audio book?

Paperback or hardback, I love a physical book with pages to turn and smell 😊

4- What’s your favourite dessert?

Anything with chocolate or Nutella!

5- Favourite quote/saying?

The world belongs to those who gets up early.

My Nominees:

@KristabellasHodgepodge

@LivingInRapidCity

@LifeTeaAndEverything

@HstoneYarnCraft

My questions:

  1. What is your favourite TV show?
  2. What is the craft you prefer?
  3. If you could live in any country, where would it be?
  4. What’s your favourite dish?
  5. Do you prefer dawn or dusk?

That’s it for me! I hope you do participate, no pressure though! And I’ve tried nominating new friends, so if you haven’t been nominated and still want to play, you can just answer the questions in the comments 😊

Liebster Award

Happy Monday readers!

Last week I have been nominated for 2 Liebster Awards and I really feel so blessed and flattered that you guys enjoy my little blog ❤️

LiebsterAward-2

A particular thank of course to the two lovely ladies who nominated me: Katie from Creating time and Hannah from QuietWaterCraft.

Here are some rules:

1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you and display the award.
2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
3. Give 11 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 11 blogs.
5. Notify those blogs of the nomination.
6. Give them 11 questions to answer

So I will start with some random facts.

  • I am French but I live in Australia
  • I play the harp
  • I am doing a PhD in fish immunology
  • I own a pup named Fenris (and he is the cutest!)
  • I’ve been married for a year to the love of my life
  • I love cooking, especially baking
  • I play a lot of games on my phone
  • I love skiing but I haven’t been in a while
  • Obviously, you would know this if you are a regular follower, but I love crochet and everything yarn related
  • I love singing, especially in my car (with the windows down 😄)
  • I go to the movies pretty much every week

Now I have two lots of questions, the first is from Katie.

  1. How do you make time for blogging and crafts? Crafting is my happy place, I try to do it every night, mostly in front of the TV (we watch a lot of TV so I have a lot of craft time!)
  2. If you could give 1 million dollars to someone, who would it be and why? I would probably give it to my parents and grandparents for being so awesome and raising me with so much love. The older I get, the more I realise how lucky I am to have such a great family.
  3. Coffee or tea? I drink tea the most but sometimes you just need coffee to get you going!
  4. What is your favourite crochet pattern or blog post? This is such a hard question! I think my favourite pattern at the moment (that I really really would like to make soon) is the Hotel of Bee shawl, it’s wonderful!
  5. What new skill do you hope to learn this year? I would love to learn how to spin yarn, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time to learn. Maybe next year?
  6. What is your favourite animal? This is a hard one too, I love animals in general! I think my favourites are nudibranchs though, I’ve even released a free pattern for a crochet one
  7. What goal do you hope to achieve with your blog in the next year? I’ve just reached 200 followers earlier this year and I would love to hit the 300 in the next year!
  8. If you could pick one thing to do for the rest of your life, what would it be? What I am doing right now! Research, I love it and I think I will never get bored of it.
  9. What is your favourite book? It would have to be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I’ve read it at least 15 times (and I am re-reading it right now!)
  10. Are you a banana or apple type of person? Banana!
  11. Who do you most admire? I have to say my nana, she is 80 and she still volunteers for her church, for the hospital and for the local stadium, she can use Facebook and Instagram as well and she still has so much sass. She is a legend!

And the second from Hannah.

  1. What are your hobbies? I crochet, knit, cross stitch and draw.
  2. What’s your favourite colour? Red
  3. When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an archaeologist, tortoise breeder and harp player (all at the same time, mind you!)
  4. Lunch and dinner, or dinner and tea? Lunch and dinner and tea? 😁
  5. Do you speak/sign any languages other than English? I speak French and Italian
  6. Do you have a favourite number? Number 2 and 13 (Friday the 13th always seems to bring me luck)
  7. What’s your favourite smell, and why? I love the smell of books because it makes me think of all the amazing stories to discover.
  8. Are you a book sniffer? (I know I’m not the only one!) haha! yes! and I am glad I’m not the only one!
  9. Do you blog to a schedule or just whenever the muse takes you? I try to post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays, but I was thinking of maybe taking a step back and only blogging twice a week instead of thrice.
  10. Would you rather be rich or famous? Probably rich, because no-one has to know! unless it’s famous for something awesome like winning a Noble price (😂 a girl can dream!)
  11. What’s your favourite type of weather? Sunny and hot but I do like to cold so that I can wear my knitted and crocheted things!

Now onto my questions

  1. What’s your favourite animal?
  2. Do you have a favourite type of books (like sci-fi, fiction, etc)?
  3. What do you love doing in your spare time?
  4. Do you cook to mostly just to feed yourself or because you really enjoy it?
  5. Skiing or swimming?
  6. If you won lotto, what would you buy first?
  7. Sweet or savoury?
  8. Do you prefer watching movies at the cinema or at home?
  9. Do you own a pet?
  10. What is your biggest peeve?
  11. Do you own Pokemon cards? (this one is from my hubby 😁)

And I’d like to nominate all of you reading my post, to share the love further! No pressure of course but I’d love to learn more about all of you 😊

Have a great week!

Blogger recognition award

Hello lovelies!

Last week was very busy for me, and I got the lovely surprise of getting nominated for 2 blogger recognition awards! Thanks a lot Tami and Nina, you are wonderful and you really made my week! If you haven’t checked their blogs, you really should, both ladies are extremely talented. Nina’s purses are just the cutest, I really love all her designs, and Tami shares all her crochet projects, and most of them are linked to youtube tutorials, so you can make them too!

blogger-recognition-award1-e1439965499665

The rules for the award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

I first started my blog as some kind of personal diary for my crafts. I had only just taught myself crochet (in the few months before starting) and I was about to tackle my first big project, a mystery CAL! I thought blogging would keep me accountable and would help me catalogue all my projects. Not only did it help me finish my first blanket (yay!) but I also found such a great community and inspired me to start designing some projects of my own.

My two advices for new bloggers

  • Keep true to yourself, if you are passionate about what you write, it will show through and people are more likely to enjoy your writing. Also, you will be less likely to abandon your blog after a few months because you are writing about something close to your heart.
  • Engage with others. The community on wordpress is amazing and there are some people that I have ‘known’ for over a year, and I truly feel like I have gained some friendships in the process. As a bonus tip (but really it’s related to this point), don’t be shy and don’t hesitate to leave comments! I find that I particularly appreciate when people let me know they like my crafts, and I’m sure that other crafters like it too, so come say hello! (promise, I don’t bite!)

Even though I’ve been nominated twice for this award, I’m only going to nominate 15 people, I hope you’ll forgive me 🙂

Giveaway announcement

Giveaway_200.jpg

Hello lovely readers!

I have noticed that I’m pretty close to 200 followers on my little blog, so first of all I’d really like to thank you all for reading me. When I first started blogging, I did not even expect to reach 50 followers, so you can imagine how ecstatic I am right now! So thanks for sticking with me for my long-time followers and welcome to you, new people!

To celebrate, I would like to announce a giveaway that I will launch as soon as I hit 200 (I’m at 191 right now, so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long, and it’ll give me time to prepare the gifts for the giveaway).

Which brings us to the current post. Why make an announcement? Because you guys are going to be able to chose what you want me to put in the giveaway! I live in Australia, so I’ll be sending a small parcel and I want to make sure it will be worth it (for you and for me!).

A few ideas I had were yarn, embroidery threads, handmade items (like an amigurumi, stitched earrings, an geeky ornament or bookmark), some chocolate, tea… as you can see I have a few ideas!

Let me know what you would prefer in the comments and don’t hesitate to add things if there is something you would really like (I’ll keep it craft related though, so keep that in mind).

Have a great end of the week!

What to do around Brisbane

Happy Wednesday readers!

Today I’m not talking about crafts, but about what to do if you visit Brisbane. My brother was visiting last week and brought a friend that had never been to Australia before. Poor things arrived during the heat wave too!

But we didn’t get discouraged by the heat, and we still managed to go around a bunch of places. Here are my recommendations if you are spending a week in Brisbane.

  1. Visit a zoo/ animal sanctuary

There are lots of different parks in the area, but one of my favourites is Lone Pine sanctuary. It is the biggest koala breeding program in the world and has really cool shows on (my favourite is the bird of preys one). You can also pat kangaroos, wallabies and emus (although I’d be careful with the emus).

2. Visit the Gold Coast

When you think about Australia, do you dream of sandy beaches as far as the eye can see? Well, the gold coast is pretty much that. We went to Surfer’s Paradise, it’s very touristy and I normally prefer the quieter beaches down the coast but it was pretty cool because they had their annual sand sculpture displays. We went on a cloudy day but still got really burnt, I forgot to reapply sunscreen and fell asleep on the beach, not fun (if you do go, put loads and loads of sunscreen, the sun is nasty here).

3. Go to a theme park

This was one of the best days. There are quite a few theme parks around the Gold Coast, and even if it’s not cheap, we had so much fun! We went to Movie World during the week so there was no-one there, and we literally just walked to the front of the line every time. So good! And we also stayed for the parade with all the super heroes and characters. The little kid in me was just so happy!

4. Spend the evening in the city

I’ve actually tried a few new places this week that I really enjoyed going to. The first on was Brew. It is located in the city centre but hidden in a little laneway. The inside was amazing, all the walls are lined with original art that you can buy and the DJ was really great. We ordered an appetiser platter and a bottle of house wine for only AU$60 (we were 3 so that was AU$20 each) and honestly I had enough food (although the boys ordered an extra burger for AU$15 each). Also, their truffle fries were amazing!

img_5652

The second place we went to is in the Valley, next to China Town. It’s a really cool pub called Taps. The reason why it was so cool is that you serve your own beer! That’s right, they have a pretty big selection of beer (that you can pre-taste btw) and then you just pre-pay how much beer you want and you pour your own pints. The other awesome thing is that they have a bunch of boardgames, including Janga. Fun, I tell you!

img_5659

5. Go to the museum

This is one of my personal favourite. The Queensland Museum and Sciencentre is always a fun time. They have a cool free part of the museum with taxidermy (you can see a bunch of the australian animals there), live animals (pretty cool stick insects and snakes) and a dinosaur exhibition (who doesn’t love dinosaurs?). They also have a pay-to-visit part, which changes quite often (every 6 months or so). At the moment, they have the whole story of how the Hadron Collider came to be. It was so so interesting and really made me wonder about how our universe was created.

Anyway, that’s my list of things to do around (mainly based on what we did with my brother). Of course, I’m missing a lot of cool things you can do on the North side (we stayed in the city and South side) but I might make another post like this about it if you guys are keen.

If you do visit Brisbane and you get bored though, drop me a line and we can go crochet/knit together 😉

My 2017 Bullet journal

Happy Friday!

I am pleased to say that I have kept my bullet journal for the whole year last year, which helped a lot with work and with my personal goals. This year, I wanted to make my journal look better (last year’s was very functional but the looks of it were meh). I’ve chosen a simple layout that I will (hopefully!) be able to stick with, and have time to prepare from week to week.

As you can see, I have a monthly and a weekly layout, with enough space to write tasks for each day. I have also added a weather, daily water intake and meal planning features for the week. I’ve been keeping a close watch to my drinking, because I work in a lab and sometimes I just spend the whole day in there without drinking (which obviously is no good).

I’ve also added some yearly goal pages.

There is a yearly layout, a birthday wheel, books (my goal is 30 books for 2017, I’ve even set up a profile on Goodreads!), movies and craft lists, and I’ve added a map of the world with all the countries I’ve visited in red and my planned trips on the right. I will be going to Belfast for a conference before visiting my parents and then (hopefully, if we have enough money) hubby and I are planning to visit Japan 🙂

Should be fun!

What have you planned for 2017?

Blog awards

I know I don’t let you know nearly enough, but I am really so grateful to all of you for reading me and for all you kind words of encouragement. I have been nominated for 2 blogger awards in the last few days, so I though I would combine them both in the one post.

First I will go with the versatile blogger award.

Rules:

  1. Thank the person that nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  2. Nominate at least 15 blogs of your choice.
  3. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.
  4. Share 7 facts about yourself!

I have been nominated by the lovely Genevieve, I love all her blog features, motivation Mondays with beautiful pics she took herself, her Nails of the Week, and her new What’s your Poison? and of course all her great reviews! Make sure you go visit her blog for all this goodness 🙂

Now, 7 facts about myself:

  1. I am obsessed by Harry Potter and I’m so excited to go to Harry Potter world in July
  2. I am also obsessed by Pokemon (can’t wait for Pokemon Go)
  3. I am basically a 24 yo child 🙂
  4. I was biting my nails until last year, but I’ve always been so excited by nail art, which I now can experiment with!
  5. I spend most of my time bumping into things, which means I always have bruises, cuts, sore part of my body. Yep, I’m that person who falls in front of everyone in the street because I randomly twisted my ankle!
  6. I like LOVE food. If I could (i.e. if I wouldn’t get sick from it and put on weight), I would eat all day long, everyday! I sometimes wonder how I’m not morbidly obese.
  7. It is very hard for me to filter when I talk to people. Sometimes, I just talk before thinking, and that’s no good! Really working hard on that one.

Now the second award is the blogger recognition award.

The rules:

  • Write a post to show your award
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give two advice to new bloggers
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to

Thanks Karen, or should I say Mrs. Craft, for nominating me 🙂 I really love all her posts, some are just plain hilarious, like when Doug the slug introduced himself! I always find so much inspiration in all her projects, so make sure to check it out!

How my blog started?

I was thinking of starting a blog for a while, but I wasn’t very sure what to blog about. Last year, I got a bit more serious with my crafty projects and wanted to have a place to share them, not just the finishes but the process and failures as well. Little did I know about the amazing crafting/blogging community, but after a few months, I was hooked 🙂

Two advices for new bloggers

  1. I’ve found that focussing on stats is really not the way to go. What’s important is staying true to yourself and sharing what makes you happy and proud. The follows and likes will come in time.
  2. Be kind to others, they will give it back a thousand fold! Now, this doesn’t just apply to blogging obviously. It’s the same with life in general. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t bother to say anything. I know it can be hard when you have no filter (hum hum, I AM working of this!) but it will make your relationships way smoother 🙂

Now, I will nominate a bunch of people, in no particular order (I really love all of your blogs!), you can chose which award you want to participate in, you can even do both if you feel like it! Make sure to check those awesome people, it’s well worth it!

Miss Caly’s 7 days of lists – day 1 to 4

Happy Friday!

Time has been going crazy fast so I didn’t get much time to add to my mandala. I have been following the prompts from Miss Caly’s blog though and I have come up with 4 days of lists so far 🙂

It was also a good excuse to use my pretty fine tips markers!

So here we go!

#1 – 20 things that make me happy
#2 – 20 places I want to visit

  #3 – 20 people who inspire me

#4 – 20 things I’d like to learn more about

Maybe you have noticed, but I wrote those lists in my bullet journal, to keep me inspired and add a bit of extra colour to it 😊

And that’s it for today! I wish you all a great weekend 😘

X
