November wrap up

Happy Saturday everyone!

I hope you all had a great week, it has been busy as ever here! I have actually been taking a small break from blogging with my best friend still being here, as I wanted to make the most of my time with her. This means that I will have to catch up on all your amazing blogs in the next few weeks, which I’m really looking forward to!

So, what did I manage to get done in November? For starters, I managed to put together a little parcel for my stitching santa, organised by Sheila of Sewchet. I really hope that my swap partner loves it as much as I do! I posted a picture on Instagram a couple of weeks ago but here it is again if you have missed it 😊

I have also received my own swap parcel, and it’s been patiently sitting under my Christmas tree! I just can’t wait for Christmas now!

This month, I have also barely escaped from trolls, made friend’s with Azog the defiler and visited the Shire on an amazing trip to New Zealand!

I did decide to join the NaNo WriMo as well for the first time, and I have to say that it was all great before New Zealand, but I did find it hard to write once there. So in the end, I was quite far from my goal, with almost 15,000 words written this year. I’m still pretty proud to have done it, and I think I will continue to use the site to track my writing, as the hardest thing is to just keep at it. I do also have plenty of plot ideas, so I will definitely keep on writing on this project.

This month, craft-wise, I have mostly done crochet, and I have finished two shawls, the Liula from Potter & Bloom and the Swaye from Addydae Designs. I have also made a lovey for a new baby girl in the family and I have designed Sandy the sea dragon for the amigurumipatterns.net design contest (voting opens tomorrow, 3rd of December, I will share some more in another post).

I am also super pleased to have joined the Hand Quilt along this month, and I have made some progress on my EPP! I have decided that this will be a baby quilt size, and that I might actually also hand quilt it.

And last but not least, this month saw another very successful Fantastic Bake-Along, themed around the apple! Yum! I decided to make an upside down pie, called a Tarte Tatin in France.

I hope you all had an amazing month and that you are ready for Christmas!! 🎄🎁screen-shot-2017-01-09-at-9-29-20-pm

October 2017 wrap up

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve all had a great week. Because it’s the beginning of the month again I thought I would share my makes from October with you.

On the knitting front, I’ve finished my Colour block jumper and my Hermione’s Everyday Socks and I’ve been loving both so much!

I’ve done quite a bit of crochet as well, mostly amigurumis, and I’m in the process of designing another ami for the amigurumipatterns.net contest. I’ve shown you Wiley the Wisp, my cute dolls and all my Halloween makes.

And of course, now that I’ve finished moving houses for a while, I could participate in our Fantastic Bake-along once again!

IMG_7161

I have plenty of things planned for November! For one, I have joined a Hand Quilt-Along hosted by the beautiful Kathy from Sewing etc. I’m super excited about this as it will give me the opportunity to work on my EPP. I have also decided to join Sewchet’s stitching santa and I can’t wait to get assigned my partner and go yarn shopping for them!

I wish you all a wonderful November ❤️

My first go at NaNoWriMo

crest-05e1a637392425b4d5225780797e5a76

Happy Wednesday readers!

Today I though that instead of showing you a work in progress, I would share the beginning of my adventure into Nano land! For those of you who don’t know, November is the National Writing Month (hence NaNoWriMo) and each year, a lot of people gather on the NaNo website to write 50,000 words.

I have had this story playing in my head for a very long time, well before I even moved to Australia, so it must have been at least 7 or 8 years now! It is based in a fantasy world with quite a few complicated aspects, so it was important for me to leave time to mature the story in my head. Last year, I started thinking more and more about it and I wrote an outline, did some character sheets and developed the backstory and how the magical system works.

I was too late to join last year, but I though that this year was the year, so I’m just going with it! I have in mind that I will be happy if I manage to get 20,000 words down, so I’m not putting too much pressure on myself to write the whole 50,000.

The title of my story is ‘The Dragon Power – Awakening’ and here is what I’ve written for the synopsis:

Ewen has been dreaming about her Power awakening since she was a little kid. Now that her initiation travel is reaching its end, she will finally Awaken and start studying at the best university in the country. What she doesn’t know is that her Power has only been partly activated, and that she will have to take full possession of it if she does not want to lose it completely. In the midst of political intrigues, betrayals and shifts of power, will Ewen manage to Awaken fully before her time is up?

That’s it! I’m super excited for NaNo to start, and I’d love to know if you’re thinking of joining as well!

The Autumn (Fall) Tag

Processed with Rookie Cam

Happy Wednesday beautiful readers!

I have been tagged by the lovely Maddie from A Little Mad Smith for the Fall Tag (or Autumn Tag as we’ve decided to name it!). The Autumn Tag is a way to share some personal things about the season, and even if it’s not autumn in Australia, I really really love that season 🍂

Rules:

  1. Put the tag badge and rules in your post.
  2. Answer the 10 fall-related questions.
  3. Tag at least 5 other bloggers to join the fun!

What’s your favorite fall outfit? I love wearing my tight jeans with ankle boots and a cute scarf or shawl. I love shawls, and that gives me an excuse to crochet or knit some more!
Your favourite drink to have in the fall? I love chai tea 😍 the slight spiciness, some cannel on top and some froth milk, yum!
Does your family have any fall traditions? If so, what are they? When I was little, we used to go for long walks with my parents, especially during autumn because it was cooler, and we used to pick up fallen leaves. Then with mum, we would dry them and make some pictures with the leaves 😊
What are some activities and events you enjoy going to in the fall months? Again, when I was growing up there used to be a fair late October – early November. I loved going there! Also, my birthday is on the first day of autumn (in the northern hemisphere), so that was always something to look forward to!
What’s your favorite fall-scented candle? I love cinnamon or pumpkin spice (which also has cinnamon!)
Tell us about one of your favorite fall memories. One of my birthday’s parties, when I was quite little. My parents went above and beyond for this one! I must have been turning 10 or something like that, and I’ve always likes puzzles and brain tease. So, they decided to throw me a pirate treasure hunt party! It was super awesome, we went to my grand parents house and had a massive run all over the garden to find clues and we finally got to the chest (an actually big chest) full or presents for everyone and lollies 😊 It was the best!
What are some fall movies you enjoy watching? I can’t really think about any autumn movie. Maybe Scary Movie 1, because it’s kind of about Halloween?
What’s your favorite fall treat? Chestnuts for sure! I love getting them from street merchants in Europe but they don’t do that in Australia, so I just buy them and roast them myself! Still yum 😄
If you celebrate Halloween, what is the best costume you’ve worn? Anyone said costume? Here are a few of my favourites!

I’ve decided to nominate the following people, as they are people I’ve only started following recently and I would love to know more about them!

Knitting In France

A Petite Slice of Life

MicaPie

Country Cross Stitchers Musings

Julia’s Creative Year

I hope you’ve enjoyed my answers, I’m looking forward to reading yours! And of course you are all more than welcome to answer a few of the answers in the comments!

September roundup

Happy Monday readers!

I am so glad that September is over, and with it the craziness of travelling all over the place for work. I just came back from yet another work trip, this time tutoring on a beautiful tropical island! I know, I’m not complaining but it’s good to be back home, even if it’s currently empty due to my imminent move.

Here are some pictures of my latest trip, it was really a lot of fun 😊

I have only finished one thing in September, my virus shawl. I have almost finished my knitted jumper too, but that will be a story for Friday!

IMG_6570

At the moment, I have a couple of WIPs, including the jumper, a pair of socks, my everlasting LOTR blanket, my almost abandoned mandala madness and the Swaye shawl I’ve just started. And then, there are the countless cross stitch projects waiting to be done. But do not despair, I will get all those projects done! Eventually 😉

A trip to Europe

Hello my lovely readers!

It has been too long but I did really enjoy having some holidays and not using technology too much. As promised though, I did take some pictures to share with you and I actually did get some crafting done too!

First, I was off to Belfast, where I had a conference for work.

Belfast was very lovely, and I even found a very cute shop that sold home deco and craft supplies, including yarn and fabric! And I even got a free fabric bag, isn’t it cute?

IMG_6556

Then I headed over to London to visit one of my good friends. We had high tea and walked around London for a bit before stopping in a pub.

And finally I got to spend some quality time with my family over in the south of France. I tanned next to the pool, went out a lot, drank wine and ate cheese! It was bliss! And I did get some knitting and crochet done too, of course! I will post more about those later next week 😊

I hope you all had a good last few weeks and I will catch up to all your wonderful blogs soon, pinky promise 😊

I got super spoilt!

Happy Saturday readers!

I hope you have all had a great week, mine was very busy but also super productive, which is always a good thing! In the last few weeks, I’ve actually got completely spoilt, not by one, but two of my blogging friends. When I first started blogging, I had no idea people would be so lovely and generous but honestly it’s been so nice to meet new people here and I am so grateful for each and every one of you ❤️

The first parcel to arrive was from Claire. Claire is an amazing stitcher and sewer, and she just recently took up crochet as well. I’m always looking forward to her layer of the month post (she has three chooks) and to seeing some pictures of Gibbs, her adorable pup. Claire organises unbirthdays and she sent me my first unbirthday! It was super exciting!

IMG_6301

I got a cute postcard, a little monster pouch and a cross stitch kit (which was started straight away, more news on that next week!)

The second parcel was a total surprise. I was waiting for some music books from my nana, and at first I though that the parcel was those books. Imagine my surprise when I got to the post office and realised that it was a parcel from Tracy! Tracy is an amazing quilter, baker and crafter in general and her blog really is so sweet! Tracy sent me yarn, and look at this colour!

IMG_6327

All those blues are just wonderful, and I think I’ve already picked the perfect pattern for it, I might even start it tomorrow (when I get new needles to cast it on). It will be a knitted shawl, and I hope that the simplicity of the pattern will do the yarn justice! ❤️

I am just so thankful for your friendship Claire and Tracy, and for the beautiful gifts you sent, so thank you so much again.

And of course, thank you guys for reading ❤️ have a great weekend!

July wrap up

Happy Wednesday lovelies ❤️

The time has come again to look back on the past month. I’m not sure how much I will get done in the next few months, as we are planning our big move interstate by the end of August and I will be aways for most of September. One thing is sure, I’ll be busy!

Here are my yarny makes, I got one more of my LOTR squares finished, I finished a pair of socks and started a new pair. Oh and let’s not forget Dumbo, my cute deep sea octopus 🐙 (I’m hoping to have the pattern up next week).

I didn’t get much needlecraft done, actually I did but I had no finish, so nothing to show you yet. I always feel like winter is a better time for crochet and knitting, and my stitching always suffers a bit during the colder months. I did try a new craft though, English Paper Piecing, and I really enjoy it!

IMG_6298

And of course, I participated in the Fantastic Bake Along, for which I chose the recipe! A quiche lorraine! Yum 🙂

So not many makes this month, but hopefully I’ll get a few more things finished before we move away and I have to pack all my craft gear (yes, when you’re at the point that it takes half the couch, I’m calling it gear!)

I hope you guys have had a great July and that you’re ready for August!

Mystery blogger award

mystery_blogger_award.jpg

Happy Monday! It’s been a little bit since I’ve done an award post and last week the lovely Jess from Ever The Crafter nominated me for the mystery blogger award. So I decided to indulge! Here are the rules.

Rules:

Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog, tell your readers three things about yourself, nominate people, notify your nominees by commenting on their blogs, ask your nominees five questions of your choice and share a link or links to your favourite posts.

3 things about me:

  1. I have been living in Australia for almost 6 years (coming this November). Before that I used to live in south France on the Cote d’Azur.
  2. I can’t sit in front of the TV without doing something else, which is great because that’s prime craft time for me!
  3. I design posters, mainly for seminars and public events we organise with the Centre for Marine Science. I love that it combines work and my creative side!

Fav posts:

Poké-alphabet – final week

Millie the Manta Ray

Questions:

1- If you had to pick one ‘pump up’ song to get you ready to do something what would you pick?

That’s a hard one, I listen to a lot of music! The one that I love at the moment though is ‘Another day of sun’ from the Lala land movie. ☀️

2- If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

I would be in Harry Potter world in Florida because I’ve never been and I’d love to go!

3- Paperback, hardback, ebook, or audio book?

Paperback or hardback, I love a physical book with pages to turn and smell 😊

4- What’s your favourite dessert?

Anything with chocolate or Nutella!

5- Favourite quote/saying?

The world belongs to those who gets up early.

My Nominees:

@KristabellasHodgepodge

@LivingInRapidCity

@LifeTeaAndEverything

@HstoneYarnCraft

My questions:

  1. What is your favourite TV show?
  2. What is the craft you prefer?
  3. If you could live in any country, where would it be?
  4. What’s your favourite dish?
  5. Do you prefer dawn or dusk?

That’s it for me! I hope you do participate, no pressure though! And I’ve tried nominating new friends, so if you haven’t been nominated and still want to play, you can just answer the questions in the comments 😊

Liebster Award

Happy Monday readers!

Last week I have been nominated for 2 Liebster Awards and I really feel so blessed and flattered that you guys enjoy my little blog ❤️

LiebsterAward-2

A particular thank of course to the two lovely ladies who nominated me: Katie from Creating time and Hannah from QuietWaterCraft.

Here are some rules:

1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you and display the award.
2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
3. Give 11 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 11 blogs.
5. Notify those blogs of the nomination.
6. Give them 11 questions to answer

So I will start with some random facts.

  • I am French but I live in Australia
  • I play the harp
  • I am doing a PhD in fish immunology
  • I own a pup named Fenris (and he is the cutest!)
  • I’ve been married for a year to the love of my life
  • I love cooking, especially baking
  • I play a lot of games on my phone
  • I love skiing but I haven’t been in a while
  • Obviously, you would know this if you are a regular follower, but I love crochet and everything yarn related
  • I love singing, especially in my car (with the windows down 😄)
  • I go to the movies pretty much every week

Now I have two lots of questions, the first is from Katie.

  1. How do you make time for blogging and crafts? Crafting is my happy place, I try to do it every night, mostly in front of the TV (we watch a lot of TV so I have a lot of craft time!)
  2. If you could give 1 million dollars to someone, who would it be and why? I would probably give it to my parents and grandparents for being so awesome and raising me with so much love. The older I get, the more I realise how lucky I am to have such a great family.
  3. Coffee or tea? I drink tea the most but sometimes you just need coffee to get you going!
  4. What is your favourite crochet pattern or blog post? This is such a hard question! I think my favourite pattern at the moment (that I really really would like to make soon) is the Hotel of Bee shawl, it’s wonderful!
  5. What new skill do you hope to learn this year? I would love to learn how to spin yarn, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time to learn. Maybe next year?
  6. What is your favourite animal? This is a hard one too, I love animals in general! I think my favourites are nudibranchs though, I’ve even released a free pattern for a crochet one
  7. What goal do you hope to achieve with your blog in the next year? I’ve just reached 200 followers earlier this year and I would love to hit the 300 in the next year!
  8. If you could pick one thing to do for the rest of your life, what would it be? What I am doing right now! Research, I love it and I think I will never get bored of it.
  9. What is your favourite book? It would have to be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I’ve read it at least 15 times (and I am re-reading it right now!)
  10. Are you a banana or apple type of person? Banana!
  11. Who do you most admire? I have to say my nana, she is 80 and she still volunteers for her church, for the hospital and for the local stadium, she can use Facebook and Instagram as well and she still has so much sass. She is a legend!

And the second from Hannah.

  1. What are your hobbies? I crochet, knit, cross stitch and draw.
  2. What’s your favourite colour? Red
  3. When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an archaeologist, tortoise breeder and harp player (all at the same time, mind you!)
  4. Lunch and dinner, or dinner and tea? Lunch and dinner and tea? 😁
  5. Do you speak/sign any languages other than English? I speak French and Italian
  6. Do you have a favourite number? Number 2 and 13 (Friday the 13th always seems to bring me luck)
  7. What’s your favourite smell, and why? I love the smell of books because it makes me think of all the amazing stories to discover.
  8. Are you a book sniffer? (I know I’m not the only one!) haha! yes! and I am glad I’m not the only one!
  9. Do you blog to a schedule or just whenever the muse takes you? I try to post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays, but I was thinking of maybe taking a step back and only blogging twice a week instead of thrice.
  10. Would you rather be rich or famous? Probably rich, because no-one has to know! unless it’s famous for something awesome like winning a Noble price (😂 a girl can dream!)
  11. What’s your favourite type of weather? Sunny and hot but I do like to cold so that I can wear my knitted and crocheted things!

Now onto my questions

  1. What’s your favourite animal?
  2. Do you have a favourite type of books (like sci-fi, fiction, etc)?
  3. What do you love doing in your spare time?
  4. Do you cook to mostly just to feed yourself or because you really enjoy it?
  5. Skiing or swimming?
  6. If you won lotto, what would you buy first?
  7. Sweet or savoury?
  8. Do you prefer watching movies at the cinema or at home?
  9. Do you own a pet?
  10. What is your biggest peeve?
  11. Do you own Pokemon cards? (this one is from my hubby 😁)

And I’d like to nominate all of you reading my post, to share the love further! No pressure of course but I’d love to learn more about all of you 😊

Have a great week!
