Liebster Award

Happy Monday readers!

Last week I have been nominated for 2 Liebster Awards and I really feel so blessed and flattered that you guys enjoy my little blog ❤️

LiebsterAward-2

A particular thank of course to the two lovely ladies who nominated me: Katie from Creating time and Hannah from QuietWaterCraft.

Here are some rules:

1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you and display the award.
2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
3. Give 11 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 11 blogs.
5. Notify those blogs of the nomination.
6. Give them 11 questions to answer

So I will start with some random facts.

  • I am French but I live in Australia
  • I play the harp
  • I am doing a PhD in fish immunology
  • I own a pup named Fenris (and he is the cutest!)
  • I’ve been married for a year to the love of my life
  • I love cooking, especially baking
  • I play a lot of games on my phone
  • I love skiing but I haven’t been in a while
  • Obviously, you would know this if you are a regular follower, but I love crochet and everything yarn related
  • I love singing, especially in my car (with the windows down 😄)
  • I go to the movies pretty much every week

Now I have two lots of questions, the first is from Katie.

  1. How do you make time for blogging and crafts? Crafting is my happy place, I try to do it every night, mostly in front of the TV (we watch a lot of TV so I have a lot of craft time!)
  2. If you could give 1 million dollars to someone, who would it be and why? I would probably give it to my parents and grandparents for being so awesome and raising me with so much love. The older I get, the more I realise how lucky I am to have such a great family.
  3. Coffee or tea? I drink tea the most but sometimes you just need coffee to get you going!
  4. What is your favourite crochet pattern or blog post? This is such a hard question! I think my favourite pattern at the moment (that I really really would like to make soon) is the Hotel of Bee shawl, it’s wonderful!
  5. What new skill do you hope to learn this year? I would love to learn how to spin yarn, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time to learn. Maybe next year?
  6. What is your favourite animal? This is a hard one too, I love animals in general! I think my favourites are nudibranchs though, I’ve even released a free pattern for a crochet one
  7. What goal do you hope to achieve with your blog in the next year? I’ve just reached 200 followers earlier this year and I would love to hit the 300 in the next year!
  8. If you could pick one thing to do for the rest of your life, what would it be? What I am doing right now! Research, I love it and I think I will never get bored of it.
  9. What is your favourite book? It would have to be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I’ve read it at least 15 times (and I am re-reading it right now!)
  10. Are you a banana or apple type of person? Banana!
  11. Who do you most admire? I have to say my nana, she is 80 and she still volunteers for her church, for the hospital and for the local stadium, she can use Facebook and Instagram as well and she still has so much sass. She is a legend!

And the second from Hannah.

  1. What are your hobbies? I crochet, knit, cross stitch and draw.
  2. What’s your favourite colour? Red
  3. When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be an archaeologist, tortoise breeder and harp player (all at the same time, mind you!)
  4. Lunch and dinner, or dinner and tea? Lunch and dinner and tea? 😁
  5. Do you speak/sign any languages other than English? I speak French and Italian
  6. Do you have a favourite number? Number 2 and 13 (Friday the 13th always seems to bring me luck)
  7. What’s your favourite smell, and why? I love the smell of books because it makes me think of all the amazing stories to discover.
  8. Are you a book sniffer? (I know I’m not the only one!) haha! yes! and I am glad I’m not the only one!
  9. Do you blog to a schedule or just whenever the muse takes you? I try to post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays, but I was thinking of maybe taking a step back and only blogging twice a week instead of thrice.
  10. Would you rather be rich or famous? Probably rich, because no-one has to know! unless it’s famous for something awesome like winning a Noble price (😂 a girl can dream!)
  11. What’s your favourite type of weather? Sunny and hot but I do like to cold so that I can wear my knitted and crocheted things!

Now onto my questions

  1. What’s your favourite animal?
  2. Do you have a favourite type of books (like sci-fi, fiction, etc)?
  3. What do you love doing in your spare time?
  4. Do you cook to mostly just to feed yourself or because you really enjoy it?
  5. Skiing or swimming?
  6. If you won lotto, what would you buy first?
  7. Sweet or savoury?
  8. Do you prefer watching movies at the cinema or at home?
  9. Do you own a pet?
  10. What is your biggest peeve?
  11. Do you own Pokemon cards? (this one is from my hubby 😁)

And I’d like to nominate all of you reading my post, to share the love further! No pressure of course but I’d love to learn more about all of you 😊

Have a great week!

What to do around Brisbane

Happy Wednesday readers!

Today I’m not talking about crafts, but about what to do if you visit Brisbane. My brother was visiting last week and brought a friend that had never been to Australia before. Poor things arrived during the heat wave too!

But we didn’t get discouraged by the heat, and we still managed to go around a bunch of places. Here are my recommendations if you are spending a week in Brisbane.

  1. Visit a zoo/ animal sanctuary

There are lots of different parks in the area, but one of my favourites is Lone Pine sanctuary. It is the biggest koala breeding program in the world and has really cool shows on (my favourite is the bird of preys one). You can also pat kangaroos, wallabies and emus (although I’d be careful with the emus).

2. Visit the Gold Coast

When you think about Australia, do you dream of sandy beaches as far as the eye can see? Well, the gold coast is pretty much that. We went to Surfer’s Paradise, it’s very touristy and I normally prefer the quieter beaches down the coast but it was pretty cool because they had their annual sand sculpture displays. We went on a cloudy day but still got really burnt, I forgot to reapply sunscreen and fell asleep on the beach, not fun (if you do go, put loads and loads of sunscreen, the sun is nasty here).

3. Go to a theme park

This was one of the best days. There are quite a few theme parks around the Gold Coast, and even if it’s not cheap, we had so much fun! We went to Movie World during the week so there was no-one there, and we literally just walked to the front of the line every time. So good! And we also stayed for the parade with all the super heroes and characters. The little kid in me was just so happy!

4. Spend the evening in the city

I’ve actually tried a few new places this week that I really enjoyed going to. The first on was Brew. It is located in the city centre but hidden in a little laneway. The inside was amazing, all the walls are lined with original art that you can buy and the DJ was really great. We ordered an appetiser platter and a bottle of house wine for only AU$60 (we were 3 so that was AU$20 each) and honestly I had enough food (although the boys ordered an extra burger for AU$15 each). Also, their truffle fries were amazing!

The second place we went to is in the Valley, next to China Town. It’s a really cool pub called Taps. The reason why it was so cool is that you serve your own beer! That’s right, they have a pretty big selection of beer (that you can pre-taste btw) and then you just pre-pay how much beer you want and you pour your own pints. The other awesome thing is that they have a bunch of boardgames, including Janga. Fun, I tell you!

5. Go to the museum

This is one of my personal favourite. The Queensland Museum and Sciencentre is always a fun time. They have a cool free part of the museum with taxidermy (you can see a bunch of the australian animals there), live animals (pretty cool stick insects and snakes) and a dinosaur exhibition (who doesn’t love dinosaurs?). They also have a pay-to-visit part, which changes quite often (every 6 months or so). At the moment, they have the whole story of how the Hadron Collider came to be. It was so so interesting and really made me wonder about how our universe was created.

Anyway, that’s my list of things to do around (mainly based on what we did with my brother). Of course, I’m missing a lot of cool things you can do on the North side (we stayed in the city and South side) but I might make another post like this about it if you guys are keen.

If you do visit Brisbane and you get bored though, drop me a line and we can go crochet/knit together 😉

My 2017 Bullet journal

Happy Friday!

I am pleased to say that I have kept my bullet journal for the whole year last year, which helped a lot with work and with my personal goals. This year, I wanted to make my journal look better (last year’s was very functional but the looks of it were meh). I’ve chosen a simple layout that I will (hopefully!) be able to stick with, and have time to prepare from week to week.

As you can see, I have a monthly and a weekly layout, with enough space to write tasks for each day. I have also added a weather, daily water intake and meal planning features for the week. I’ve been keeping a close watch to my drinking, because I work in a lab and sometimes I just spend the whole day in there without drinking (which obviously is no good).

I’ve also added some yearly goal pages.

There is a yearly layout, a birthday wheel, books (my goal is 30 books for 2017, I’ve even set up a profile on Goodreads!), movies and craft lists, and I’ve added a map of the world with all the countries I’ve visited in red and my planned trips on the right. I will be going to Belfast for a conference before visiting my parents and then (hopefully, if we have enough money) hubby and I are planning to visit Japan 🙂

Should be fun!

What have you planned for 2017?

Miss Caly’s 7 days of lists – days 5 to 7

Happy Wednesday readers!

Today I managed to finish the 3 last lists prompts from Miss Caly. I found the lists from day 5 and 6 a bit more challenging. Day 5 was about listing 20 of our fears and I guess no one really likes to dwell on what scares us. I am no different and it was hard to think about  what things I am truly afraid of. It was a great exercise though as I realise that in some situations I tend to get nervous or even angry when in fact I am just afraid.

#5 – 20 of my greatest fears

List 6 was even more challenging. I think I usually never really take the time to appreciate all the small achievements in life and it was hard to come up with 20 things that I was truly proud of achieving. I actually asked for some help from my other half for this one 🙂

#6 – 20 of my greatest achievements

And finally day 7 was fun to write and I hope you guys get to know me a little better from it.

#7 – 20 weird and wonderful facts about me

I wish you all a great end to the week

X
