18 for 2018 – September update

Hello everyone and welcome October!

I can’t believe there are only 3 months left to the year, and what a year it’s been so far! Here is my monthly update to my goals for this year. As you can imagine I didn’t get much done as I spent a while in hospital but I still ticked a few things off the list!

18 letters sent to friends – 3/18
With the interstate move I would like to keep in contact with friends so I want to make the effort to send them handwritten letter throughout the year.

I sent a birthday card to my best friend this month, I may have been a bit early but at least I’m sure she got it on time!

17 new recipes tried – Completed in July
If you’ve been following me for a while you will know that I love cooking and baking so this should be pretty easy. Plus, the monthly bake-along will definitely help me with this one!

Very strangely, I made burgers for the first time this month. I’m usually not a big fan of burgers but they are quite different when made from scratch and I really liked the ones I made.

16 painted units of miniatures – 5/16
My husband and I play a miniature game and one of the fun parts is to build and paint our own miniatures. I haven’t done much last year so I hope to catch up this year by painting more models.

I finished one more model! yay! Very pleased with how this one turned out, and I got back into the swing of painting with another unit on the way.

15 books read – 9/15
I’ve decided to tune down this goal from last year, as I don’t have a lot of time to read. But I feel like 15 would be a good number to reach this year.

I finished the last book of the trilogy I mentioned, ‘Ellana, la prophétie’. It was great to re-read those books and I’m looking forward to when Clark is old enough to read them too.

14 mitered squares added to my memory blanket – 5/14
I have started a knitted memory blanket using my scraps of yarn from previous projects (mostly socks) and I’d like to see it grow this year.

None this month, my knitting has been rather slow.

13 batches of baked goodsmade and eaten – Finished in August
Again, with the bake-along this should be quite easy to accomplish!

I haven’t really been keeping track of this goal, but I have at least made a batch of savoury cakes and a batch of mini quiches that I froze before I went to hospital.

12 pairs of socks – 4/12
We have real winters in Melbourne, so hubby and I will definitely need new socks, I thought one per month was a manageable goal.

None again this month, this goal isn’t looking too good (unless I decide to make 8 pairs for Clark, those should be pretty fast!)

11 new stitch markers made – 0/11
I have been playing with shrinking plastic lately and I’d like to make new stitch markers using some cute drawings.

Ahem…

10 new movies seen – Completed in May
We go to the movies almost every week, so I think this goal will be easy to reach, but it will give me a change to blog about movies I see a bit more.

For the first time ever we haven’t been to the movies this month! But I have watched two movies I hadn’t seen before. I finally got around to watch Coco (twice!) and I loved loved it! And I also watched Wonder, which was so good too.

9 amigurumi made – 6/9
I obviously love amigurumi enough to design some! I want to precise that those 9 amigurumi will be from other designers, I might even participate in another ami-along.

No new amigurumi this month.

8 months cross-stitched on the snowflower diaries calendar – 2/8
This did not get worked on at all last year, so I’d like to finish it this year.

I haven’t done any cross stitch in ages, so no progress here.

7 games of 40k played with hubby – Completed in September
The good thing with painting miniatures is that I will definitely want to play more (I’m hoping anyway) and this will definitely be a fun activity to do with my husband.

We have actually played heaps of games of miniatures this month. I got a new game for hubby early September and we’ve played at least 3 times each week, including when we were stuck at the hospital. So that’s another goal completed!

6 new designs published – 3/6
As you know I already have two new designs that I need to write up and publish. I have also started on a knitted shawl design using the beautiful yarn I got in NZ. Very excited about this one!

One more off the list this month! I’ve published Cooper the Copepod‘s pattern

Cooper the Copepod

5 k steps walked every day – 5/30
I changed this goal. I am still trying to keep moving during my pregnancy to not transform into a couch potato! Hopefully this will help me keep healthy despite the weight gain.

Not too great again this month but that should be changing as I recover! Plus, baby Clark loves going on walks in his stroller so hopefully that means I’ll be more active in October.

4 LOTR squares finished – 2/4
Yes I know I’ve been making this for ages but 2018 is the year I get it finished!

Still working on the second to last square, hoping for a finish this month.

3 jumpers knitted – 1/3
Similarly to the need for socks, I will need more jumpers this year! I already have the yarn and a pattern for my first jumper so I’m hoping this goes smoothly.

I have now reached the sleeves on my summer jumper! I’ve tried the body and the fit is nice so I can’t wait to finish that one to wear it.

2 getaway trips – Completed in July
We are trying to save money for a house deposit this year, but I’d still like to get a couple weekends away with hubby. We already have one planned, we will be going to the Bendigo sheep and wool show in July

1 thesis submitted – Completed in June
I’m so keen to finish my PhD, so this is definitely my n°1 goal this year!

That’s it for me this month, it’s been surprisingly productive considering how busy I’ve been. I hope you are all getting on well with your goals too!

Miniature painting

Happy Saturday everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great week, here I’ve had lots of work helping my husband with his experiments. There was a lot to do but we make a pretty good team so we only have a little bit to finish on Monday. We’ve been enjoying our rainy Saturday at the hobby shop and I have finished painting two units of my miniatures. I’m pretty excited as it means that I’m progressing nicely on my 18 for 2018 goals!

The two units I’ve finished are orks, which in the lore of the game are meant to be growing like fungus over the galaxy. They love fighting and will only follow the strongest ork, even it that means fighting between themselves before they can actually fight with anyone else! I’ve painted a unit of nobz, which are big experienced warriors, and a warboss, which is even bigger and their leader.

I’ve had a lot of fun painting those and I’ve also recently been working on a third ork unit, which I will share hopefully next week. It’s been a nice break from my RBTL shawl knitting, as I’ve hit a bit of a slow patch with it. I really want to get it off my needles though, so I’ll work hard to finish it asap!

Orks painting

Happy Monday!

I hope you’ve enjoyed your long weekend if you’ve had one, I’ve spent mine crafting as you can imagine 🙂 you’ll be happy to hear that I’ve finished the baby blanket in time for the baby shower, but so last minute (I was weaving ends in the car on the way there!) that I didn’t get time to take a proper picture. Here it is next to all the other presents, this little girl is already spoilt!

The future parents were super glad though so that’s what matters 🙂

In other news I’ve started painting my warhammer miniatures again, and I’ve made some good progress on a squad of orks. The story for this is actually quite funny, in the warhammer universe, orks are fungi that keep on growing all over the planets. I have this crazy theory that orks are French and that’s why they can’t say “Hs” so I’m painting their clothes blue white and red 😂 anyway, I’ve done their skin and  started the metal bits on some of them so far.

I’m pretty excited with how they’ve turned out so far and I can’t wait to actually play a game with them when they’re actually painted! I’ll be back on Wednesday with some crochet update 😊

Wips and doodles

Happy Monday!

I hope you guys had a good weekend! I’ve been a busy bee, we got a lot of things done for our upcoming wedding (got our wedding bands and booked cake tasting for next week and the DJ).

I’ve also been inspired to draw more lately. Yesterday I tried my new ink pen (I got it for Christmas but didn’t get ink until yesterday).

As you can see my bullet journal is going pretty good, I’ll do a review about it at the beginning of February.
I got some inspiration as well from the Warhammer 40k universe.

This is my take on a nurgling. Nurglings are lesser demons under the command of the Chaos God of life and death, Nurgle. I’m thinking of turning him into a cross stitch pattern, I think he is rather cute!

As for my current wips, I have started an infinity cowl using the same yarn I used for my Drops Design slippers
I have also started the air symbol on my avatar afghan. At the moment it is going pretty slow (it takes me ages to do one row) but I have started watching “The legend of Korra” so I hope that will motivate me.

That’s it for today folks!

 😘

New week, new goals!

This weekend went very good, I got a lot of nice comments about my Army on Parade on Saturday and it was fun to spend the day at the hobby shop it had been a while!

Here are some pictures that are available on the GW Mount Gravatt Facebook page

On another note, Halloween this weekend! I’m so excited because we are having a Harry Potter themed party and I have been making Hogwarts robes for my fiancé and I. I really need to finish those for the weekend, along with our magic wands! So those are my goals for this week. I am also planning on making a whole menu based on HP featured dishes so stay tuned, I’ll be posting some pics next weekend.

And finally, Mr. Jelly has accompanied me to work today, to help me correct assignments 🙂

Fishy and upcoming competition

Good morning crafters!

Last weekend we went back (after a very long absence) to our local Games Workshop hobby shop: The Hall of the Great Wolf. Seeing all those models made me want to play again and especially to continue painting my armies! Luckily, next Saturday, there is an Armies on Parade competition held at the hobby shop. We have to bring a board and an army, all painted and looking nice. You probably don’t remember but a few months ago I was working on this guy, a volcano board. Since, I’ve added some lava (which I need to finish before next Saturday) and I also want to add some details (including some moss and eggs).

Eggs? What eggs? I have decided to display my Tyranids army, so they will be Tyranids eggs. Tyranids are monster looking creatures that all form a collective entity, can share thoughts instantly through “synapse” (psychic) communication and have for only goal to feed on all bio-matter they can find, reproduce and advance through the universe.

Overall, I just think they look great and they are fun to play with, which is why I chose them. Also, the colour scheme I chose for them is bone and blue, which I think will look nice on a volcanic terrain.

IMG_2887

Hive Tyrant – He is the leader of the army

IMG_2890

Termagaunts – basic soldiers, good at shooting

IMG_2892

Genestealer – sneaky, with rending claws (can go through his opponents armour)

IMG_2891

Hormagaunts – basic soldiers like the termagaunts, but they are a combat unit rather than a shooting unit

Now before next Saturday, I just need to finish a few other models and to finish the lava effect on the board and I’ll be ready to enter in the Armies of Parade comp!

Crochet-wise, I was trying to reduce my stash a little and I found this really cute pattern on yarspirations website to crochet tropical fish dishcloths. I changed the pattern slightly to make a rainbow fish!

I hope you guys had an amazing weekend!

Work in progress – crochet clutch and modelling board

Hi crafters! Today I’d like to share some of my latest projects. A crocheted clutch using tapestry crochet (when you carry on the yarn inside your work so both sides look the same) and a volcano-like terrain for the model game I play (Warhammer anyone?). I’m pretty excited about this last one because it’s the first time I’m doing this and I find it pretty awesome!

IMG_2417

4 colours clutch with leather flap. Crochet hook size 4 using double knit yarn.

IMG_2412

2ftx2ft board for Warhammer 40k. Volcano in the center with 3 smaller islands. Made out of recycled polystyrene.

So stay tuned for more pictures (hopefully when they are finished!)
