FO – hubby socks

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I’m sorry if today’s post looks a bit weird, for some reason my computer refuses to let me write a new post so I have to write on my phone. Hopefully the format isn’t too off.

I have finally finished hubby’s socks and he was pretty pleased with that! With autumn coming up in Australia it was about time too!

I’m just so happy with how the colour matching worked out, I think they are almost perfectly aligned 😊

I think that was a good way to finish the month too, I’m looking forward to sharing my 18 for 2018 on Friday with you.

WIP Wednesday – Read between the lines

Happy Wednesday everyone, and happy Valentine’s day!

I hope you spent a great day with loved ones and that you had an amazing time. I have been super busy, similarly to last week and also super tired (12h work days will do that to you!) but I still managed to get some knitting done. I think I mentioned recently that I started the Read between the lines shawl (RBTL for short) and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s my first time doing illusion knitting and I’ve been enjoying it so much. The pattern is worked in horizontal stripes but the illusion makes it look as if the stripes are vertical, neat right?

The pattern asks for Scheepjes whirls but I had two Illusion Cakes from Lincraft (one of Australia’s main craft stores) so I just used those. I’m loving the colours so far, I think the final shawl will be quite muted but in a good way and will hopefully go with a lot of my clothes. There is also a crochet version of this pattern available for the non-knitters and I’ve seen some amazing versions on Instagram!

I’d love to know if you are making one of those shawls, I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful colour combinations!

Again I wish you all had a great Valentine’s day ❤

WIP Wednesday – Hubby socks

Happy Wednesday!

I hope that your first week of Feb has been great, I have just been so busy that I missed my usual Monday post. I’m afraid that I will only be able to blog on Wednesdays for the next couple of weeks, but fear not, I have a few things on the go that I will definitely be sharing when everything is back to normal!

This brings me to today’s post, I have made a start on my second pair of socks of the year, and I have a half finished object (HO) to show you!

I’m using self striping yarn, and to make them more manly than my socks, I’m not doing any lace pattern. Hubby was definitely relieved about that one! The socks kind of fit on my sock blockers, because I discovered that I have hobbit feet (almost the same size as hubby’s). Or maybe he just has small feet? Either way, those fit him, and he is happy he will have a new pair for winter. I really like the striping effect on those, I think they look great! I have lost the ball band somewhere though so I can’t remember what the yarn is, but I shall find out and I will mention it when I finish the socks.

I have also made a start on the Read Between the Line shawl and I love it! I will try to take some pictures and share that next week 🙂 I wish you all a wonderful end of the week!

FO Friday – Possum shawl

Happy Friday everyone and happy Australia day to everyone living in the country of Oz!

I’ve had a pretty relaxing day, doing absolutely nothing! How great?

I’ve finished my shawl made of possum blend yarn, and wanted to share that with you today. I’m really in love with it, it’s just so soft against my neck but we have been having crazy high temperatures so I haven’t had much opportunity to wear it. I really like the lacy pattern I’ve used, it’s so simple yet so effective in my opinion. Here it is!

I also needed your advice, what do you think I should call this shawl? Please let me know in the comments!

WIP Wednesday – Possum shawl

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I have mentioned in my yearly goals that I would like to design more this year, and I’ve really been enjoying designing amigurumi so far. I have had an idea for a knitted shawl in my head since last week though, and so I’ve started on it using some super soft possum/merino/silk yarn I bought while in New-Zealand. The yarn is Zealana Kauri and it’s just amazing. I’ve been using my new interchangeable needles from Knitpro too, and I have to say that they are great, the transition from cable to needle is just so smooth. Anyway, the shawl is in three colours and I am doing a simple lace pattern with the green/mustardy colour.

I really love the overall effect, I’m hoping to have this finished by next week and I’m hoping that the blocking really makes the lace stand out 🙂 I think it’s pretty good for my first ‘freestyle’ knitting project.

Have you ever designed a project on a whim? I’d love to know!

candy corn socks

I’ve already worn them of course and they are perfect in my running shoes 😊 So that’s my first pair (and first project) finished for the year, hopefully I can keep up my goals!

Have you finished projects this year already?

FO Friday – Diamond Lace Kimono

Happy Friday lovely readers!

Today I want to share with you my latest finish (which was actually done just before the new year), my diamond lace kimono, from Originally Lovely. I’m just so pleased with how it turned out, the gauge was actually perfect and I think it fits great. I even had my aunty (who was visiting with my grandparents) to take some nice pictures while we were visiting a winery.

I actually have barely taken it off in the last few weeks (only in the last two days, as the temperatures reached around 30°C). The only thing I was a bit sad about was that I used one skein that wasn’t from the same dye lot, and I didn’t notice it until I took pictures sadly. But I guess it gives my kimono character and makes it unique! That’s what I tell myself anyway 😂

Have a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday – (Crochet) knitted socks

Happy Wednesday lovely readers!

I hope you all had a great start to the year, I am sure having a great week with my family still being here. We visited an orchard yesterday and went along the coast today and it was all beautiful!

On New Year’s Eve, I decided to cast on some very special yarn I got from Bogga from Knitting in France. I thought I would try something new so I started my very first crochet sock. Now, this was an epic fail! I didn’t like the fabric that the crochet made, the sock was too small I didn’t like the look of it overall.

I got all the way to there but then I just couldn’t do it. I had to frog it! So that was my first frog of 2018 on day 2! I really loved the yarn though, so I knew I had to start back straight away. Thankfully I’m a fast knitter, so this is where I’m at since yesterday.

I actually prefer everything about this sock, especially how the yellow and orange blend (it looks less like candy corn but I think they are more wearable this way so I’m happy). I’m doing a shorty vanilla sock to wear in my sport shoes and I’ve already turned the heel and decreased back to the right number of stitches needed for the foot. I’m not really using any pattern, I just cast on 60 sts, did a 2×2 rib and used a heel flap with eye of partridge motif (which is my absolute favourite). I should have this first sock cast off by the end of the week and possibly a whole pair next week.

I guess at least I tried crochet socks but, unless I find a really good pattern or you guys can recommend one, I don’t think I’ll try it again anytime soon.

Have you already had a fail this new year? Please tell me I’m not alone! In any case, have a great end of the week.

WIP Wednesday – Diamond lace kimono

Happy Wednesday readers!

I have to say it’s been a bit hard to knit or crochet today, as it’s been super hot in Melbourne! But I realised that there is a project I have yet to share with you.

A little while back, I may have mentioned that my lovely nana sent some yarn in a parcel and I have decided to follow the current fashion and use it to make a lacy kimono. I feel like kimonos have been everywhere this season, and I’m very happy to me making one (which I probably won’t use until autumn, but that’s okay!).

The pattern I’m following is a free pattern by Kaitlin Blasing from Originally Lovely. I love this pattern, the only issue is that the gauge was a bit confusing to me. It read 16 stitches = 10 cm , but I’m not sure how many rows, or even if that was using stockinette. Oh well, I’ve started and I shall see, but it seems good so far, I think I will definitely fit in (I’ve tried wrapping it around me and so far so good!)

Here it is, isn’t the pattern lovely?

I’m really looking forward to finishing it, it’s supposed to be knitted in one piece starting from the bottom and I’m almost at the neck, yay!

What have you been working on this week? I’d love to know ☺️

October 2017 wrap up

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve all had a great week. Because it’s the beginning of the month again I thought I would share my makes from October with you.

On the knitting front, I’ve finished my Colour block jumper and my Hermione’s Everyday Socks and I’ve been loving both so much!

I’ve done quite a bit of crochet as well, mostly amigurumis, and I’m in the process of designing another ami for the amigurumipatterns.net contest. I’ve shown you Wiley the Wisp, my cute dolls and all my Halloween makes.

And of course, now that I’ve finished moving houses for a while, I could participate in our Fantastic Bake-along once again!

I have plenty of things planned for November! For one, I have joined a Hand Quilt-Along hosted by the beautiful Kathy from Sewing etc. I’m super excited about this as it will give me the opportunity to work on my EPP. I have also decided to join Sewchet’s stitching santa and I can’t wait to get assigned my partner and go yarn shopping for them!

I wish you all a wonderful November ❤️
