Fan fiction inspiration

TGIF!

This week has been crazy! My husband was away and work was so busy but I’ve ‘discovered’ a new fun thing to do.

Now I know I’m actually rather late to the party but I’ve started reading Harry Potter fan fictions (because ❤️ Harry Potter) and especially ones with the very questionable (but so awesome) Draco/Hermione couple.

I have to say I am in love! And now I totally ship Dramione!

I got quite inspired from stories I’ve read so far and so I’ve done a bit of drawing.

Those are just outlines of the characters (I do want to draw them with more interaction but I need to make sure I know how I want them to be first).

And then I’ve drawn this, which I’m actually quite fond of.

(In case you wonder, Punksalad is my deviant art ID 😉)

Let me know what you think and have a great weekend! I’ll be working hard on that table center and hopefully finish it 🙂

Harry Potter frenzy!

Happy Friday lovely readers!

I will soon be visiting the UK and while we are there we have planned a visit of the Harry Potter theme park. As you may know, I’m a HUGE Hp fan, so, in the spirit of my upcoming trip, I have made a few preparations.

First off, I finished my Hogwarts robes, which I made for our Harry Potter Halloween party last year. I took this test to know which house I belonged to, and I got Ravenclaw!

The robes were wearable for Halloween but I wanted to improve them a bit, so I put binding on the sleeves and I added a button and some elastic band to close it off. I also needed my house crest so I started stitching it on 14 count aida, using this graph found on Pinterest.

I changed up the colours a bit and this is where I’m at.

I also acquired some Hogwarts book as you can see, just to be ready for when I finally go there (after all, I’m a Ravenclaw and we like to read ahead!).
I also made up this layout for an embroidery project I have in mind.

I used a bunch of HP related symbols and phrases and put them all in a heart. Oh, and did I mention I LOVE Harry Potter yet?

Now, back to stitching, I haven’t yet found a way to enchant my needle to work on its own.

“The werewolf only responds to the call of its own kind”

Hey peeps!

I’ve been working on a new cross stitch project, a werewolf howling to the moon. This is it so far, I’m still debating of whether or not adding the quote from the title to it.
For the finish I think I’ll just put it in a smaller hook and hang it on the wall 🙂

I added to my painting with a shiny umbreon but, even though he is cute, I think the painting looks empty, so the rest of the eevylutions will probably be joining him!

I’ve been extra lazy with my granny squares so I’ll have to catch up if I want to finish my blanket before the end of the month.

This is my latest square

It’s blue beetle!

Well, not quite! Actually it’s a blue and red cotton harlequin bug (Tectocoris diophthalmus I believe). I have finished my painting!

This week we decided that we could just paint a home rather than pay a bunch to get only a little help. The big difference we found was that our brushes were not as good as the ones from the “class” we attended last week. But with the $40 a class per person we will be saving, we will definitely have the money to invest in better brushes for next week!

I also started on a new painting. Can you guess what/who will be on the couch? (hint: it’s pokemon related!)

To finish, my latest coded pictures 🙂 I’m using that as my background on my phone, I just think it’s too cute!

Hoot hoot!

I am so excited to say that I have received my owl from Nic! If you haven’t already, check out her blog, she is an amazing crafter and she is the loveliest person! So here it is! How cute right?

I don’t know yet how I’m going to call him. Any ideas? 🙂

Also, tonight Dylan and I went to our first painting class! It was pretty good, we got to choose what we wanted to paint and I learnt a few cool painting techniques.

That’s what I got after 2 hours.  Still needs a bit of work!
I based my painting on a picture I took a few years back.

And Dylan decided that he wanted to improvise and paint a dragon. Instead, he painted the “fluff monster”!!

I think it’s really cute! I think we both had a lot of fun so we might be going back for more!

Oh and a few pics from yesterday’s walk. It was very grey but it was great because it was also very warm!

Hope you guys are having a great week and that you celebrated well yesterday if you are in Australia!

Wips and doodles

Happy Monday!

I hope you guys had a good weekend! I’ve been a busy bee, we got a lot of things done for our upcoming wedding (got our wedding bands and booked cake tasting for next week and the DJ).

I’ve also been inspired to draw more lately. Yesterday I tried my new ink pen (I got it for Christmas but didn’t get ink until yesterday).

As you can see my bullet journal is going pretty good, I’ll do a review about it at the beginning of February.
I got some inspiration as well from the Warhammer 40k universe.

This is my take on a nurgling. Nurglings are lesser demons under the command of the Chaos God of life and death, Nurgle. I’m thinking of turning him into a cross stitch pattern, I think he is rather cute!

As for my current wips, I have started an infinity cowl using the same yarn I used for my Drops Design slippers
I have also started the air symbol on my avatar afghan. At the moment it is going pretty slow (it takes me ages to do one row) but I have started watching “The legend of Korra” so I hope that will motivate me.

That’s it for today folks!

 😘

Appa… Yip yip!

The year has most definitely kicked off for me, I was back to work this morning. But on the bright side, it means that I am back to my dedicated evening crafting time (no more impromptu Settlers of Catan game on a Wednesday, let’s leave this madness for the holidays!).

So yesterday we went back to stock up on some crafting goodies (Dylan is making another giant 40k board, it’s going to be awesome) and I found a pyrograph. The great thing is we practically got it for free (new year’s sale I love you).

I’m decorating my yarn crate 🙂

It’s actually harder than it looks, the tool gets really hot so I have to go little by little.

As you may have guessed from the title of this post, we are watching “Avatar, the last air bender” at the moment. I loooove this show! It is one of those cartoons that are good when you are a kid but just get better when you re-watch them. And so in the spirit of Avatar, my first new yarny project of the year: the bending blanket!

I designed the chart for the 4 nations (Air, Water, Earth, Fire) based on the symbols from the show and I’m making a corner to corner blanket. The ends are going to be annoying to weave but hey! It’s all part of the fun!

Have you guys also been inspired by a show/movie you watched or a book you read recently?

When Monday doesn’t feel like a Monday

Hello crafters!

Today was Labour Day in the country of Oz, so we got an extra day to relax! I haven’t done much more of my programming course, but I’m already well into week 2 so that’s ok! We had to code for a house with a fence and make the lines for the roof and fence thicker than for the house.

I added some flowers and tried to make the house in 3D.

I also had to work with patterns so I made this design, changing the colours of the squares in the background and creating overlapping circles.

Also I decided to finish one of my forgotten half-cross stitch WIPs. I really like the design but I just got demotivated because I can’t really see the progress on it (probably due to the painted background). I think it must have been sitting in a drawer for 3-4 years, so I’d like to finish it by the end of the year, will see how I go! 🙂

I also got this little dude done over the weekend! I really love mudkip, it might actually be my fave starter!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Week off and new goals

Hi guys!

You are probably wondering where week 9 is for my Mystery Afghan CAL. Well, I took a break this week. With the field trip I didn’t really get time to have any crochet done and I also have to finish the birthday present for my friend (her birthday was yesterday and we are celebrating today!).

Little bulbasaur is all finished and ready for his new home! I also attached a string a the top so the necklace/bag hanger is complete!

I have also completed my first MOOC on the rise of superheroes from the Smithsonian, I will post my drawings in here later. Some of the art/stories submitted by the other participants were pretty amazing!

I was happy I pulled through and did all the assignments in time, so I decided to challenge myself a bit more, so I am now enrolled to the Think. Create. Code.  course from  university of Adelaide. You have probably guessed it, it’s a programming course and it is mainly focused on digital art creation.

Here are a few screenshots of what I have coded so far for the course.

Also, because we have entered the last quarter of the year, I have decided to make a list of what I want to achieve for the end of the year:

CRAFTS

• Finish my CAL (should be done in 2 weeks – posts on Friday).

• Find another WIP to post every Friday when the CAL is completed (already have a few ideas!).

•  Post regular updates of my Edx programming course (Mondays).

• Craft Christmas presents and cute decorations for our first Christmas in our house (we went to my parents’ last year).

PERSONAL

• Prepare my itinerary for Europe next July.

• Finish preparations for my wedding next year.

• Go to the gym at least twice a week (my aqua gym classes have been cancelled, so I need to find something else I like to do).

WORK

• Finish writing my second paper for my PhD.

• Keep my LinkedIn and ResearchGate profiles up to date.

What do you have planned for the end of 2015?

Welcome spring!

Howdy everyone!

It is the first of September, which means winter is officially over. Yay! I’ve got a few exciting things planned for this month, I am going on the Great BarrierReef and it is my birthday on the 21st.  I’m also going to go dress shopping for my wedding next year (that should be fun!) and I have plenty of craft projects I’d like to do.

I am currently testing out cross stitch on clothes, because one of my friends’s birthday in October. She loves Pokemon (so do I) so I’ll cross stitch her favourite Pokemon on a shirt for her. I’m currently doing Gengar on a tank top (getting ready for summer!)

On another note, I’m enrolled in this massive open online course on edX on superheroes (nothing to do with my PhD on fish immunology but I love superheroes so I HAD to do this!) it’s really fun and it’s great for creativity as we have to create our own super hero! Here is a little preview of the introduction of my hero black raptor.

I know it’s a bit cheesy but I had fun drawing that! So I might be posting some more pictures of my “comic” later on as the course continues.

Have a lovely week everyone!

😘 X
