Hand Quilt Along – 14/04/19

Hello everyone!

It is time again for an update on my EPP. I have done quite a lot of quilting in 3 weeks and I think it is just about time as it’s starting to get cold here and I’m sure baby Clark could do with a warmer blanket.

I have decided to quilt around each “heart” shape and I love how it looks. I’ve taken my progress picture from the back so that you can see the quilting better.

I’ve probably already quilted about 1/4 so hopefully this won’t take too much longer before I can cut it back to size and bind it.

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful 3 weeks!

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

  1. Pretty, and perfect for a baby quilt. But I’m concerned that you don’t seem to have the layers held together with anything? Is it spray basted? If not, there’s a danger you’ll end up with wrinkles, which would be a pity after all that hard work…

    • Oh no I knew I was forgetting something 😭 Do you think it’s too late for me to baste it? I was following instructions on a needlecraft book I have but I must have missed the basting bit. I hope it’s salvageable ☹️

      • I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s not all wrinkly where you’ve already quilted, and basting will make sure it stays that way.. Given the size, and the fact that you’re hand quilting, I’d probably thread baste the rest it at this point because it secures the layers together more closely than pins and you don’t catch your thread on stitches!

    oohhh unicorns on the back!
I join Kate with my concern that you haven'”t basted your layers together, and that things are going to move or wrinkle before the end.

    • My mum chose the back fabric, I’m quite fond of it ☺️ and I forgot to baste the layers, must have missed that part on the instructions I was following, probably too eager to get started 😭 I hope I haven’t ruined it

I’m impressed! It’s looks great! Safety pins work good for keeping layers from sliding.

    • Maybe I can try safety pins, and hopefully I haven’t ruined it already. Can’t believe I have made such a mistake, and I hadn’t even realised before reading the comments 😢 Thanks for the advice Deb 😘
