Snowflake blanket WIP

Hello lovely readers!

I have made some progress on my snowflake blanket, but I need your advice now. I am not sure what to do for the sides of it. My two options are to do half hexagons to have straight edges or to leave it as is.

I’m leaning towards making half circles at the moment but any opinion would be welcome 🙂

I currently have 6 rows and I am planning to add just another one, so hopefully it should be finished soon (by the end of the month?). The finished blanket will be perfect size for a baby or as a lapghan.

That’s it for me today! Until next time 🙂

  1. I would keep the shape but maybe do a couple of rows of a border in the black, but it looks fabulous whatever you decide to do!

    • Thanks 🙂 it’s a great idea, I will definitely look into doing a nice border with the black, probably a row of sc and then using bobbles 🙂

I prefer straight edges on hexagon blankets. But either way looks nice. It’s just personal preference. Maybe do a few on one edge to see what you like?

    • I can definitely do a few and see if I like the looks of it, I just need to figure out how to do them! 😂 I think I would prefer it too but I haven’t tried yet so I guess I can’t really know!

I like straight edges generally but they never look ‘right’ to me on hexie blankets! I like the idea of a thick border row around what you have too.

    • Yes I like straight in general as well but I’ve never done an hexie blanket so I’m not sure. It will just be trial and error for this one I guess 🙂

I have done a hexie blanket but technically it’s not finished yet, it’s a giant hexagon made of hexagons currently and (when I can be bothered with the monotony!) I intend to make enough hexagons to make it ‘rectangular’ to cover a king bed spread, but I haven’t managed that yet! Working out whether to leave it or straighten it out is part of the reason why I don’t go back to it though!

      • Is that your Catan afghan? I guess it would be okay either way if the ‘outside’ of it is the water 🙂 good luck with it, I’m really pushing myself not to get bored this time and actually finish it.

It is, it isn’t quite as hexagonal as it was in the picture any more though, I’ve added a few more hexes get have since given up as it was boring me slightly! I’m looking at it as an ongoing project as we can’t have it on the bed this winter because we’ll be co-sleeping and due to the rats it can’t go on the sofa either! So it’s in a box somewhere until I can be bothered to finish it 😉

It’s so hard to stay motivated on bigger projects isn’t it? The three blankets I finished in August took so much effort!

  5. Lovely blanket! I also prefer straight edges and maybe a thick border around the edge. Looking forward to seeing the finished work!
